[Bach IOC위원장, 향후 IOC의 제1회 올림픽 Esports 게임 론칭 계획(IOC plan to launch inaugural Olympic Esports Games)발표하다]
Thomas Bach IOC위원장은 인도 Mumbai개최 제141차 IOC총회개막 연설에서 제1회 올림픽 Esports게임(Olympic Esports Games)론칭 계획을 발표하였다고 합니다.
Bach IOC위원장은 인공지능(AI)의 적극 활용을 통해(to exploit the opportunities of AI<Artificial Intelligence>) 사고방식전환(a change of mindset)을 촉구하였다고 합니다.
Bach IOC위원장은 2023년 상반기에 싱가포르에서 열린 첫 올림픽 Esports주간을 포함하여 올림픽운동내부에서 확대일로에 있는 e-Sports의 출중한 위상에 대하여(the increasing prominence of esports)논의 하였다고 합니다
Bach IOC위원장은 국제사이클연맹(UCI)회장 겸 프랑스 NOC위원장 겸 IOC위원인 David Lappartient이 위원장을 맡고 최근 신설된 IOC Esports위원회가 “올림픽 Esports게임”창설과 관련하여 주도적으로 추진할 것을 주문하면서 “전도 양양한 시작에 불과한 것이며 어떤 스포츠도 전도유망하게 시작하곤 하지만 진짜 경쟁 상황은 두고 보아야 하는 것”(This was a promising start, but it is just that - a start. It is like in any sport - after the promising start, the real race still lies ahead.) “경쟁에서 성공적으로 뚫고 나아가기위해 나는 새롭게 시작된 IOC Esport 위원회가 올림픽 Esport게임 창설에 대하여 연구할 것을 요청하였음”(To compete successfully in this race, I have asked our new IOC Esports Commission to study the creation of the Olympic Esports Games.)이라고 언급하였다고 합니다.
올림픽 Esports게임 론칭 타깃은 아직 설정되지 않았으며 포맷에 대하여서도 세부 내역이 발표되지 않았지만 관련 IOC분과위언회활동사항보고가 10월15일에 진행된 바 있습니다.
2023년 ‘Olympic Esports Week’은 2021년에 시작된 ‘Olympic Virtual Series’의 온라인 상으로만 진행되었던 것의 연장선 상이었다고 합니다.
IOC는 Olympic Esports Week 2023이 성공적이었다고 대대적으로 홍보한 바 있는데 Olympic Esports Series 확대 개념의 특정 참가자(unique participants)그룹 50만명을 겨냥하였는데 생중계채널을 통하여 6백만명이상이 시청하였으며 실제로 싱가포르 행사에는 10개 종목에 걸쳐 130명이상의 참가자들이 운집하였다고 합니다.
동 행사 결과 esports로 간주되지 않던 Tic Tac Bow와 같은 프로그램 타이틀이 포함되고 Dota 2,League of Legends및 Counter-Strike와 같은 것들이 빠진데 대하여 팬들로부터 약간의 비판에 직면한 바 있다고 합니다.
Bach IOC위원장은 일관되게(consistently) 폭력을 미화하는 관념으로 비춰지는 게임은 환영 받지 않을 것이며(games perceived to glorify violence will not be welcome) 10월14일 IOC총회 개막연설에서는 esports에 대한 그러한 접근방식이 점차 인기를 얻고 있다(its approach to esports is increasingly popular )고 주장하면서 “전세계에 esports와 게임을 즐기는 인구가 30억명에 달함”(There are three billion people playing esports and gaming around the world) “그들 중 5억명이상이 가상스포츠와 스포츠 시뮬레이션 등이 포함된esports에 구체적으로 흥미를 가지고 있는 것으로 추산되고 있음”(It is estimated that over 500 million of them are interested specifically in esports, which includes virtual sports and sport simulations.) “우리에게 심지어 더 관련이 있는 것이란: 그들 중 대다수가 34세 미만이라는 것임”(What is even more relevant to us: a majority of them are under the age of 34.) “이러한 이유로 우리는esports를 전체론적, 포괄적인 방식으로 연계할 전략적인 결정을 하게 되 것임”(This is why we took the strategic decision to engage with esports in a holistic way.) “우리는 1세기에 걸쳐 우리를 지탱해온 우리의 가치에 충실하면서esports공간에서 활발하게 전개할 수 있는 접근방식을 선택하게 되었음”(We chose an approach that would allow us to be active in the esports space while staying true to our values that have guided us for over a century.) “esports와 관련하여 우리의 가치는 우리가 남지 않을 적색 선 내에 머물고 있음”(With respect to esports, our values are and remain the red line that we will not cross.) “우리의 명명백백한 입장은 esports공동체에서 더 많은 존중을 받아 오고 있음”(Our crystal clear position is gaining more and more respect in the esports community.)이라고 IOC의 esports에 대한 경계 점과 구분에 대하여 피력하였다고 합니다.
Bach IOC위원장은 과거 발언을 통하여 AI가 제공하는 기회와 도전 과제에 대하여 언급하였는데 나중에 밝힌 바 에 따르면 올림픽의 미래를 “전통과 진보의 부득이한 강력한 융합”으로 정의하며 논의 할 때 자신의 연설문 도입부 일부가 기술력을 사용하여 진행된 것을 포함하여(including part of his speech at the beginning he later revealed was generated using the technology when he discussed the future of the Olympic Games as a "compelling fusion of tradition and progress) 그 필요성에 대하여 화두를 꺼냈던 바 있다고 합니다.
Bach IOC위원장은 “우리의 지속되는 성공은 우리가 디지털 기술의 연속적인 발전과 특히 AI를 어떻게 포용하는 가에 달려있음”(Our continued success depends on how we embrace the ever accelerating development of digital technology and in particular AI) “이것이 Olympic Agenda 2020로 하여금 ‘변화를 주도하느냐 아니면 변화 당하느냐’를 더욱 긴박하게 만드는 것임”(This makes our Olympic Agenda 2020 imperative 'change or be changed' even more urgent.)이라고 피력하였다고 합니다.
Bach IOC위원장은 AI가 선수들과 심판들을 위하여 개별적으로 차별화된 훈련 계획, 올림픽대회조직, 방송 및 관중 경험을 포함하여 스포츠를 혁명 화할 수 있는(AI could "revolutionise" sport, including creating individualised training plans for athletes, refereeing and judging, organising the Olympic Games, broadcasting and spectator experience) 분야에 다하여 제시(outlined areas)하면서 “만일 우리가 이러한 논의를 지금 시작한다면, 우리는 스포츠에 적용할 AI의 미래를 형상화 하는데 여전히 기여할 수 있는 것임”(If we are starting this discussion now, we can still contribute to shape this AI future for sport) “Olympic Agenda를 통해 추진한 것처럼, 우리는 우리가 변화를 당하기 전에 변화를 주도할 수 있는 것임”(As we did with Olympic Agenda, we can change before we are being changed.) “만일 우리가 이러한 이슈를 지금 언급하지 않는다면, 그때에는 순전히 기술적이고 상업적 이익추구만이 쓰나미처럼 우리에게 다가올 것임”(If we do not address this issue now, then the purely technological and commercial interests will come over us like a tsunami.) “이러한 기회를 포착하기 위하여서는 사고방식에 변화가 필요한 것임”(To seize this opportunity it needs a change in mindset.)이라고 주장하였다고 합니다.
신설된 AI Working Group은 올림픽운동을 위한 기회와 위험요소들에 대하여 검토해 달라고 요청하였지만 이러한 연구를 통한 영향의 초기 징후는 Paris2024대회에서 보게 될 수도 있다(some early signs of its impact may be seen at Paris 2024)는 전망입니다.
Bach IOC위원장은 AI와 esports를 IOC가 전진하기 위한 초점의 2개 핵심분야(two key areas of focus for the IOC moving forward)로 요약하면서 “AI와 esports는 우리가 취할 2가지 기회임”(AI and esports - these are our two opportunities) “이러한 기회를 포착하여 위험요소들을 제압하기 위해서 우리는 새로운 사고방식이 필요한 것임”(To seize these opportunities and to manage the risks, we need a new mindset.) “우리는 젊은이들의 사고방식이 필요함”(We need the mindset of the young people.) “우리는 그들을 신뢰하고 힘을 실어주어야 함, 왜냐하면 변화의 속도가 기하급수적이기 때문임”(We have to trust and to empower them, because the pace of change will be exponential.)이라고 주장하였다고 합니다.
Bach IOC위원장은 paris2024대회에 대한 믿음을 선수쿼터배당(with gender parity in terms of athlete quota places)과 4만명이 출전하는 마라톤과 같은 다수 참가 이벤트(mass participation events)와 상대적으로 더 많은 도시형 경기장*more urban venues)과 아이콘 이정표를 사용하며(the use of iconic landmarks) 파리 중심부Seine 강을 따라 펼쳐질 50만명이 지켜보게 될 전대미문의 올림픽 개회식(an unprecedented Opening Ceremony watched by 500,000 spectators along the River Seine) 등 이란 관점에서 양성평등을 실현하는 “새로운 시대의 대회”(Games of a new era)임을 반복적으로 언급하면서 John Lenon의 Imagine 노래 송시를 떠올리며(in an ode to John Lennon’s Imagine)“평화롭게 삶을 영위하는 그 모든 사람들을 상상해 보라”(Imagine all the people, living life in peace)고 하였으며 “여러분은 내가 몽상가 라고 이야기할 지도 모름”(You may say, I‘m a dreamer.) “하지만 나만이 유일한 몽상가는 아님”(But I’m not the only one.) “우리모두는 Paris2024올림픽대회에 오는 세계최고기량을 자랑하는 세계각국선수들과 함께 이러한 꿈을 공유하는 것임”(We all share this dream with the best athletes of the world coming to the Olympic Games Paris 2024.)이라고 언급하였다고 합니다.
인도 Mumbai개최 제141차 IOC총회 개막 연설에서 Bach IOC위원장은 IOC총회 개막식에 참석한 인도 여성 IOC위원인 Nita Ambani와 인도 총리는Narendra Modi에게 자신을 환영해 주고 올림픽에 대한 성원에 대하여 그리고 Emmanuel Macron 프랑스대통령에게는 Paris2024대회성공을 위한 그의 약속에 대하여 감사의 뜻을 표명하였다고 합니다.
Bach IOC위원장은 세계의 지도자들이 “첨예하게 분열되고 대립적인 세계에서 우리의 결속력을 갈망하고 있음”(longing for our unifying force in this highly divided and confrontational world)이라고 주장하였다고 합니다.
