·1988 – Despite negotiations, athletes from the DPRK did not participate in the Olympic Games Seoul 1988. (1988년: 교섭협상에도 불구하고 북한선수들 서울1988올림픽 불참)

 

·1998 – The IOC started talks for participation of a unified Korean team at the Olympic Games Sydney 2000. (1998년/10년 후: IOC, Sydney2000올림픽 단일팀 참가를 지향하는 회담 착수)

 

·2000 – Athletes from the NOC of the ROK and the NOC of the DPRK marched jointly behind the Korean unification flag at the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games Sydney 2000, but competed for their respective NOCs. (2000년: 남북한 선수들 Sydney2000올림픽개회식에 한반도 통일기를 앞세우고 공동 행진하였으나 대회 경기에는 각각의 NOC로 출전)

 

·2004 – Athletes from the NOC of the ROK and the NOC of the DPRK marched jointly behind the Korean unification flag at the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games Athens 2004, but competed for their respective NOCs. (2004년: 남북한 선수들 Athens2004올림픽 개회식에 사상 두 번째로 한반도 통일기를 앞세우고 공동 행진하였으나 대회 경기에는 각각의 NOC로 출전)

 

·2006 – Athletes from the NOC of the ROK and the NOC of the DPRK marched jointly behind the Korean unification flag at the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games Turin 2006, but competed for their respective NOCs. (2006년: 남북한 선수들 Torino2006동계올림픽 개회식에 사상 세 번째로 한반도 통일기를 앞세우고 공동 행진하였으나 대회 경기에는 각각의 NOC로 출전)

 

·2014 – The IOC started to evaluate the situation on the Korean Peninsula, beginning with discussions at the level of Head of State and with the United Nations. (2014년: IOC, 국가수반수준의 논의로 시작하여 UN차원에서 한반도 상황 평가 착수)

 

·2014 – The IOC offered a special programme of support to athletes from the NOC of the DPRK for their qualification for the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018. (2014년: IOC, 평창2018 출전자격획득지향 북한선수들 대상 특별지원프로그램 제공)

 

·2016 – During the Olympic Games Rio 2016, a meeting was held between the IOC and a high-level governmental delegation from the DPRK. In this meeting, the IOC also discussed its special programme of support to the athletes of the NOC of the DPRK to help with their qualification and participation within the framework of the United Nations sanctions. (2016년: Rio2016올림픽기간 동안 IOC 및 북한 당국고위대표단 간의 회의 개최---동 회의에서 IOC, UN제재 범위내에서 북한선수들의 평창2018 출전자격획득 및 참가관련 특별지원프로그램 논의)

 

·2017 – Starting in January 2017, this process was amplified with a series of meetings and talks with Heads of State and Government from different countries in the region and beyond, and also at the United Nations; and with continuing discussions with the NOC of the DRPK. (2017년: 2017년 1월을 시작으로 이러한 과정은 제반국가들 및 UN차원에서도 국가수반들과의 일련의 회의와 회담을 통해 더욱 확산되었으며 북한 NOC와의 지속적인 논의 또한 진행하였음)

 

·2017 – Numerous meetings and consultations with representatives of the NOC of the DPRK were held. The talks included the evaluation of the special programme of support that started in 2014. The programme was developed with a special view to athletes potentially qualifying for and participating in the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018. (2017년: 북한 NOC 대표들과 여러 차례 다양한 회의와 협의가 개최됨--회담논의 내용에는 2014년 시작된 특별지원프로그램 평가도 포함되었음---동 프로그램은 평창2018 잠재적 출전자격획득 가능성 있는 선수들을 위하여 특별히 개발되었음)

 

·November 2017 – The IOC President, in his address to the United Nations General Assembly, expressly reiterated the invitation “to everyone to join us at the Olympic Winter Games 2018” and continued by saying: “Everyone is invited to celebrate our shared values, to celebrate the best of the human spirit, to celebrate our unity in diversity.” The UN General Assembly adopted by consensus the resolution “Building a peaceful and better world through sport and the Olympic ideal”. New wording for the first operative clause of the resolution for the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 urged the UN Member States: “to ensure the safe passage, access and participation of athletes, officials and all other accredited persons taking part in the Olympic Winter Games and Paralympic Winter Games.” The consensus for the Olympic Truce resolution included both the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, as well as the future hosts of the Olympic Games: Japan, China, France and the United States of America. (2017년 11월: IOC위원장 UN총회 연설에서 2018년 동계올림픽에 모든 사람에 대한 초청을 확실히 재차 강조하였으며 “누구나 인류정신의 최고와 다양성 속의 통일됨을 축하기 위하여 우리의 공유된 가치를 축하하는 자리로 초대되어 있음”을 언급하였음----UN총회는 “스포츠와 올림픽이상을 통한 평화롭고 더 나은 세상 건설을 도모하고자 하는” 휴전결의안을 합치로 채택하였음---평창2018 동계올림픽에 등록된 모든 참가자들에 대한 안전한 왕래와 접근용이 보장을 촉구하는 내용이 UN회원국 모두에게 선포되었음---올림픽ㄷ휴전결의안의 합치 통과과정에 남북한과 향후 올림픽 개최국들인 일본, 중국, 프랑스, 미국 등이 포함되어 있었음)

 

·January 2018 – The IOC convened a meeting in Lausanne on Saturday 20 January 2018 between the IOC, the NOCs of the ROK and the DPRK, the two Korean Governments and the Organising Committee of the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018. The meeting resulted in all parties signing the “Olympic Korean Peninsula Declaration”. This declaration contained exceptional decisions of the IOC to make the participation and joint activities of the two teams possible. These decisions resulted in the two delegations marching together as one, under the name Korea and behind one Korean unification flag, at the Opening Ceremony. It also resulted in the formation of a unified women’s ice hockey team with players from the two NOCs. (2018년 1월: IOC는 1월20일(토), IOC,  남북한 NOC, 남북한 정부당국자 및 평창2018조직위원회가 모두 참석한 회의를 소집하였음--동 회의 결과 “올림픽 한반도 선언문”이 모든 참석자들이 서명하였음---이 선언문에는 IOC가 예외적으로 내린 결정사항이 포함되어 있었으며 남북한 팀의 참가와 공동활동을 할 수 있도록 하는 것이었음----이러한 결정사항에 의거 남북한 선수단이 ‘코리아’란 호칭으로 평창2018 개회식에 한반도 통일기를 앞 세우고 공동입장하도록 하여 주었으며 이어 남북한 NOC 선수들로 구성된 여자 아이스하키 단일팀 구성 및 출전이 이루어진 바 있음)

 

 

 

·February 2018 – Athletes from the NOCs of the ROK and the DPRK marched as one team, behind one Korean unification flag at the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, sending a message of peace from the Korean Peninsula to the world. For the first time in their Olympic history, the two NOCs united to compete as one team in a sport with the unified women’s ice hockey team at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018. (2018년 2월: 남북한 NOC선수들은 평창2018 동계올림픽 개회식에 한반도 코리아 통일기를 앞세우고 한팀으로 행진함으로써  한반도로부터 전 세계에 평화의 메시지를 전파하였음---올림픽사상 최초로 2개의 NOCs가 연합되어 한 종목에 한팀으로 평창2018동계올림픽 여자 아이스하키 경기에출전하는 쾌거를 이룩함)
