[Beijing2022 동계올림픽쇼트트랙 신규남녀혼성계주 2000m 종목경기 IOC승인 박진감 기대만발]

12월24일 한 외신 보도에 따르면 평창2018동계올림픽 쇼트트랙 남자 1000m챔피언인 Samuel Girard 가 Beijing2022동계올림픽 신규종목으로 채택된 쇼트트랙 남녀 혼성 계주 포맷(short track speed skating's new mixed relay format)으로부터 다른 스포츠 종목들도 배울 점이 있을 것으로 믿는다고 발언한 것으로 보도되었습니다.

동 신규종목은 남녀 선수들이 함께 동반 출전하는 2,000m 혼성계주 경기(both men and women compete together over 2,000 metres)로써 Beijing2022동계올림픽 신규종목으로 승인된 바(approved by the IOC for inclusion at the Beijing 2022 Winter Games) 있다고 합니다.

캐나다의 Samuel Girard선수는 평창2018 남자 쇼트트랙 1,000m금메달리스트인데 혼성계주 종목을 선호하는 팬(a fan of the discipline)이라고 합니다.

다음은 Samuel Girard선수의 발언내용입니다:

A.  "I think it shows to other sports that we can have mixed gender in every sport." (쇼트트랙 신규 혼성계주종목이 다른 스포츠 종목들에게도 우리가 모든 스포츠에 혼성종목을 포함시킬 수 있음을 보여주는 사례라고 생각하고 있음)

B.  "Since the beginning of short track it has always been men and women separated but now we have the mixed and it's worked really well so I think that other sports have to focus on that too because it's really fun to do.(쇼트트랙이 시작된 이래, 언제나 남자종목과 여자종목이 별도로 분리되어 실시되어 왔지만 이제 우리는 혼성경기를 갖게 되었으며 정말 잘 운영되고 있으며 다른 종목들도 혼성경기에 초점을 두어야 하는데 그 이유는 그렇게 하는 정말 재미가 있을 것이기 때문임)

C.  "It's not to compare with only the boys or only the girls – we have to work together and that's really nice." (남자들로만 또는 여자들로만 비교하는 것이 아니라 우리는 양성이 함께 운동하여야 하고 그것은 참 좋은 것이기도 함)

양성평등은 미래 올림픽대회에서 IOC에게 큰 목표(Gender equality is a big goal for the IOC at future Olympic Games)라고 합니다.

Girard의 팀 동료(team mate)이자 평창2018쇼트트랙 3개 부문 메달리스트(a three-time medalist)인 캐나다 여자 쇼트트랙 선수 Kim Boutin 역시 이러한 포맷에 대해 찬성하여 왔다(backed the format)고 합니다.

다음은 Kim Boutin의 소감발언 내용입니다:

A.  "It helps us to challenge ourselves to be pushed by a guy and it's good for the synergy of the group." (혼성계주종목은 남자선수가 밀어주는 가운데 여자선수들의 도전의식이 살아 나도록 도와주며 그룹의 시너지 효과를 위해서도 좋은 일임)

B.  "It's always going to be a hard race to win because in many countries there are two strong girls and guys so it makes it really interesting and hard to do something great in. (승리를 장담하는 것이 늘 어려운 이유는 많은 국가들에게 최소 2명의 강력한 여자선수와 남자선수들이 있기 마련이기 때문에 뭔가 위대한 일을 성취해 내는 것은 흥미롭기도 하고 어려운 일이 되는 것임)

C.  "There are already some other mixed events in the [Olympic] Games and it's obviously what the people want to see." (올림픽대회에서 이미 혼성종목경기가 존재하고 있음 이러한 혼성종목 경기에 대하여 사람들은 보기를 원하고 있는 것은 명백한 사실임)
