Emmanuel Macron 프랑스대통령은 5월6일, 러시아와 우크라이나 간의 전쟁을 포함한 모든 분쟁에 Paris 2024올림픽 가간 중 휴전이라는 아이디어를 지지해 준 것에 대하여(for backing his idea of a truce in all conflicts, including the war between Russia and Ukraine, during the Paris Olympics this summer) Xi Jinping중국국가주석에게 감사를 표명하였다고 AFP(Agence France-Presse)가 보도하였다고 합니다
Macron프랑스대통령은 러시아와 우크라이나간의 휴전을 지향하는 모종의 작업이 가능한 기회가 있을 것임을 암시하기도(also hinted at a possible opportunity to work towards a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine)하면서 “아마도 이러한 것이 국제법을 전적으로 존중하는 가운데 [갈등에 대한] 지속 가능한 해결방안을 도출하기 위한 작업의 기회가 가능할 수 있음”(Perhaps this could be an opportunity to work towards a sustainable solution [to the conflicts] in full respect of international law)이라고 언급하였다고 합니다.

올림픽휴전(Olympic Truce)은 BC776년 고대 그리스의 전통에서 기원하는데(an ancient Greek tradition dating back to 776 BC) 고대 그리스어로 ékécheiria이며 그 뜻은 “무기를 내려 놓는 것”(laying down of arms)으로 고대올림픽개최도시국가가 공격을 받지 않고 참가선수들과 관객들이 대회참가를 위해 안전하게 여행하고 평화롭게 귀국할 수 있도록 확고히 하기 위해 올림픽대회기간과 대회 전 선포되었다(declared before and during the Olympic Games to ensure that the host city state would not be attacked and that athletes and spectators could travel safely to the Games and return peacefully to their respective countries)고 합니다.
1992년 IOC는 근대올림픽기간동안 모든 국가들이 올림픽휴전원칙을 준수하도록 촉구하는 전통을 새롭게 재개하였다고 합니다.
이러한 올림픽휴전은 1993년 10월25일자 UN결의안 48/11조와 세계평화와 안전관련UN 새천년선언에 의해 재확인되었다(reaffirmed by United Nations Resolution 48/11 of 25 October 1993 and the UN Millennium Declaration on World Peace and Security)고 합니다.
