[미국 스포츠 계 성폭행 추가 폭로로 발칵 뒤집힌 사연 및 배경 스케치]

 

 

최근 외신보도(8월17일자)에 따르면 미국 2명의 올림픽 챔피언들이 팀 닥터였던 Larry Nassar의 손에 피해를 받은 (at the hands of former USA Gymnastics doctor)미국 체조여자선수 성폭력 사건 이후 폭로(spoken out)에 합류하였다(Two more Olympic champions speak out after Nassar abuse)는 기사를 게재하였습니다.

가장 최근에 폭로에 합류한 여자체조스타선수인Madison Kocian 및 Kyla Ross 등 두 선수는 의료행위로 위장한 가운데 불명예 퇴진한 의사에 의해 성폭력 당한 바(sexually assaulted by the disgraced physician under the guise of medical treatment) 있다고 확인하였다고 합니다

 

 

미국체조 팀 닥터였던 Larry Nassar는 미국 스포츠 계를 발칵 뒤 흔들어 놓았던 스캔들 후(after a scandal which has rocked American sport )현재 최대 175년간의 징역을 선고 받고 실형을 살고 있는 것으로(currently serving a jail term of up to 175 years) 알려졌습니다.

 

 

250명 이상의 사람들이 파렴치한 Nassar를 성폭력혐의로 고발하였으며(accused him of abuse) 이들 중에는 최상의 급 체조선수들도 포함되어있다(including a number of top gymnasts)고 합니다

 

 

Ross선수의 폭로합류입장(admission of Ross)은 London2012올림픽 여자체조단체전 우승팀을 지칭하는 “Fierce Five” 팀 전원을 암시하는데 이는 Gaby Douglas, Jordyn Wieber, Aly Raisman 및 McKayla Maroney 4명을 포함하여 5명 팀 전원 일치의 폭로가 도래하였음(has now come forward)을 의미한다고 합니다

 

 

Gaby Douglas, Jordyn Wieber, Aly Raisman 및 McKayla Maroney Ross 4명의 선수들은 2014년 세계체조선수권대회 단체우승 팀 멤버들(team world champion in 2014)이었는데 성폭력 당시 Ross는 13세에 불과하였다(abused just aged 13)고 말했다고 합니다:

 

 

현재 21세가 된 그녀는 CBS TV와의 인터뷰에서 “나는 당시 그 상황을 받아들이지 못하는 심리상태였어요”(I was in denial)고 토로하면서, “13세에, 나는 그 행위가 치료의 합법적인 형태인 것으로 생각했죠”(At 13, I thought it was a legitimate form of treatment),, “세월이 지나면서 영향평가에 관해 듣고 나서 끔찍스러운 사건이 일어났음을 깨닫게 되었지요” (As years have gone on, after hearing impact statements, you realise what a terrible event has happened)라고 언급하였다고 합니다.

 

 

가장 최근에 폭로에 합류한 여자체조스타선수인Ross와 Kocian 두 선수는 지난 2018년 1월 그들의 팀 동료들을 포함하여 수 십 명의 여자들이 Nassar가 법정에 소환되어 맞닥뜨렸던 청문회에서 그녀들이 당했던 것에 대한 진술을 하였을 때 자신들이 겪었던 당시 성폭력 진행과정을 되짚어보기 시작하였다(began to process the abuse they had suffered in January when dozens of women - including their team-mates - faced Nassar at court hearings and gave statements about what they had been through)고 합니다.

위기가 들이닥치자 곧 바로 신랄한 비판이 쏟아졌는데 비판주동세력은 미국체조협회와 미국올림픽위원회가(The crisis has led to fierce criticism of both USA Gymnastics and the United States Olympic Committee (USOC)) 그러한 사태에 대해 무엇을 알고 있었으며 책임단체당사자들이 과연 성폭력행위를 예방할 수 있었을지 여부와 그 시기에 대한 것(over what they knew and when and whether they could have prevented the abuse)이 비판 대상이었다고 합니다.

 

 

지난 달 7월, 미국상원에서는 각 단체책임자들이 비난 면피용으로 보이는 법원접수서류 제출 후(after each made court filings seemingly trying to absolve themselves of blame) 양쪽 단체들이 도입한 개혁내용의 성실성에 대하여 질의하였다(questioned the sincerity of reforms introduced by both organisations)고 합니다.

 

 

미국올림픽위원회(USOC)는 Nassar의 행위에 대하여 법적 책임이 없다고 논박하면서(arguing that they hold no legal responsibility for Nassar's actions) Raisman) Wieber 및 Maroney가 제소한 소송의 피고인자격을 말소해 달라는 요구를 하였다(filed a motion to be removed as a defendant in lawsuits)고 합니다

 

 

미국체조협회(USA Gymnastics) 역시 Nassar가 자원지원을 하였으며 급여대상이 아니었기 때문에 자기들 역시 책임이 없다고 논박하면서 (arguing that because Nassar volunteered for them and was not on the payroll, they were also not responsible)다른 소송을 겨냥한 서류를 제출하였다(also lodged papers for a different lawsuit)고 합니다

 

 

Kocian선수는 Rio2016올림픽 여자체조단체전에서 우승(금메달)하였으며 여자 게인 2단 평행봉 종목에서 은메달을 추가한 바(added an individual silver in the uneven bars) 있다고 합니다.
