[평창2018 정치위기상황이 동계올림픽 및 패럴림픽 홍보에 악영향 끼침을 인정]

 

1월17일 한 외신기사 제목은 “평창2018조직위원장 정치적 위기상황이 올림픽 및 패럴림픽 홍보에 악영향을 끼치고 있음을 인정하다”(Pyeongchang 2018 President admits political crisis is disrupting Olympic and Paralympic promotion)였습니다.

1.  이희범 POCOG위원장은 현 한국사회 전반을 뒤 흔들고 있는 정치적 스캔들이 평창2018 홍보작업 및 스폰서 수입금에 영향을 끼치고 있음을 인정함

 

Pyeongchang 2018 President Lee Hee-beom has admitted that the ongoing political scandal disrupting all aspects of South Korean society is affecting promotional work and sponsorship revenue for next year's Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

 

2.  이위원장은 금년 들어 첫 공식발언을 통해 대회 후 생동감 있는 유산 살리기와 기금모금을 위해 더 많은 작업이 요구된다고 발언함

 

Lee, speaking publicly for the first time this year, also admitted that more work is required to raise money as well as ensure a viable legacy after the event.

 

 

3.  이 위원장은 최순실과 연루된 IOC TOP파트너 겸 평창2018 후원 기업인 삼성과 함께 박근혜대통령이 탄핵절차를 직면하고 있는 상황에서 역으로 암시되고 있는 항간의 억측에도 불구하고 평창2018이 어떤 부패로부터도 깨끗하게 준비되어 왔음을 강조하고 천명함

 

He insisted, however, that the Games have been "clean" from any corruption, despite suggestions to the contrary.

South Korean President Park Geun-hye is currently facing impeachment proceedings while technology giants Samsung, a key backer of Pyeongchang 2018 and a leading International Olympic Committee (IOC) TOP sponsor, have also been implicated in connection with their alleged links to Choi Soon-sil.

Choi, the 60-year-old advisor of Park who exerted "undue influence" on policy-making, despite having no official Government role, is alleged to having influenced the tender process for Pyeongchang 2018 venues.

She has also been accused of having influenced the process by which Cho Yang-ho was replaced by Lee as Pyeongchang 2018 President last May.

4.  이희범위원장의 연합뉴스에 보도된 발언내용임:

 

(1) "It's been widely reported that Choi Soon-sil and her associates had tried to exploit the Pyeongchang Olympics for profit." (최순실과 그 일당이 평창2018 동계올림픽을 이익 착취대상으로 노렸다는 보도가 폭 넓게 전파되어 왔음)

 

(2) "But while Pyeongchang might have been a target of such corruption, I can tell you that no such attempts actually materialised. (평창이 그러한 부패 노림 수의 목표물이었을지언정 그러한 시도는 언감생심 실현되지 못하였음을 말씀 드림)

 

(3) "If you find any evidence of corruption, you should let me know. (혹 그런 부패관련 증거가 있다면 알려주시기 바람)

 

(4) "Tendering processes by the Government aren't that sloppy. (정부가 주도하는 입찰과정은 그렇게 느슨하거나 녹록하지 않음)

5.  이 위원장 전임 조양호위원장의 사임에 둘러싼 어떤 음모에 대하여 아는 바 없으며 이제 뒤를 돌아보기 보다는 앞을 보며 전진해야 함을 주장하였음

 

Lee also claims to have no knowledge of any "conspiracy" surrounding Cho's sudden departure, claiming they should now look forwards rather than back.

 

 

 

6.  이재용 삼성 부회장 은 부친인 이건희회장의 건강이슈로 인해 사실상 총수인데 최순실에게 430억원(U$2,960만 불)뇌물전달 혐의로 기소 중이며 뇌물 및 횡령혐의로 구속영장 발급이 임박함

 

Jay Y. Lee, the Samsung vice-chairman and de facto head due to health issues being suffered by his father Lee Kun-hee, is accused of having paid bribes totaling ₩43 billion ($36.4 million/$29.6 million/€34 million) to Choi.

A warrant is due to be issued for his arrest on charges of bribery and embezzlement.

 

 

 

7.  2008년 회계비리 및 탈세혐의로 유죄선고 받고 7년 형에 벌금 430억원을 추징 받았음에도 불구하고 이건희 회장은 1996년 IOC위원에 선출된 바 있으며 2010년 당시 이명박 대통령으로부터 특별사면을 받음으로 IOC위원 직을 유지할 수 있었고 평창2018유치 지원에 나설 수 있었음-그는 2014년 5월이래로 심근경색으로 와병 중임

 

His father was elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1996, despite being found guilty in 2008 of financial wrongdoing and tax evasion and sentenced to seven years in prison and fined ₩43 billion.

But he was pardoned by then South Korean President Lee Myung-bak in 2010 so he could remain on the IOC and help Pyeongchang's bid for 2018. 

Lee has been in hospital since May 2014 after suffering a heart attack.

8.  평창2018은 이러한 문제들 와중에 국내외 동계올림픽관심 제고를 위한 홍보 캠페인이 지지부진할 여유가 없음을(cannot afford to fail) 인정하고 분발을 강조하는 이희범위원장의 계속되는 발언 내용임:

 

(6) "Given the current political climate, it's been difficult to raise people's interest in the Pyeongchang Games." (진행중인 정치적 상황을 놓고 볼 때, 평창2018에 국민들의 관심을 끌어 올리는 작업이 어려운 실정임)

 

(7) "We'll put together promotional campaigns. (우리는 합심하여 홍보캠페인을 전개할 것임)

9.  서울, 평창, 강릉, 정선 등지에서 펼쳐질 60여 가지 홍보 및 문화행사들을 통해 오는 2월9일 평창2018 개회식 기준 G-1년을 기념하기 위해 최선의 노력을 경주 중임-금주부터 시작된 스키 테스트이벤트를 통해 더 많은 관심을 이끌어내게 될 것임

 

Around 60 promotional and cultural events marking the games are scheduled to be held in Seoul, Pyeongchang, Gangneung and Jeongseon to mark February 9, exactly a year before the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympics is due to take place. 

It is hoped that an Alpine skiing test event beginning this week will also generate greater attention.

 

 

 

10.               평창2018 12개 경기장에 대한 유산계획이 아직 최종 마무리 중인데 쓸모 없는 덩치 큰 무용지물로 방치하지 않기 위해서임-평창2018은 그런 와중에 2017년 스폰서 목표치를 놓친 부분도 있음-다시 한번 정치적 스캔들이 비난의 대상으로 자리매김한 감이 있음

 

Legacy plans for 12 venues are still being finalised in order to avoid being left as white elephants,

Pyeongchang 2018 also missed their sponsorship target for 2017.

Once again, the political scandal has been blamed.

(9) "Deals with about 10 companies, worth more than ₩30 billion (£20 million/$25.6 million/€24 million), were supposed to have been signed last year, but they've been pushed back." (300억원 이상 가치가 나가는 10개 가량의 스폰서 협상들과 지난 해 계약체결 서명 식을 갖도록 되어 있었으나 (이러한 여파로 말미암아) 모두 미루어진 상태임)
