2021년 하순 GAISF(Global Association of International Sports Federations)회장으로 선출된 Ivo Ferriani 국제봅슬레이 스켈레톤 연맹(IBSF: International Bobsled and Skelton Federation)회장 겸 이태리 IOC집행위원이 2022년 5월 예정되었던 GAISF총회에서 조직해체안건이 회원 단체들에게 통보되면서 진행되어 왔습니다.
‘과연 GAISF는 해체되는 것일까?’가 국제스포츠 계 초미의 관심사로 회자되고 있는 와중에 지난 5월20일(금) 온라인 GAISF총회에서는 향후 조직의 거취에 대한 약간의 실마리(some clarity)가 도출된 바 있습니다.
Ferriani회장은 GAISF회원단체 대표들에게 “GAISF는 오랫동안 유용한 기능과 목적을 위해 기여하여 왔지만 최근 몇 년간 점점 활동영역이 현저하게 축소되어 왔음-예를 들면, GAISF회원단체들을 대표하는 통솔기구로서 회원 단체들에게 종합적인 서비스를 제공하여 왔으며 회원 단체들 역시 더 구체적인 수준으로 동일한 업무를 할 수 있다는 판단이 들었음-ASOIF(Association of Summer Olympic International Federations/하계올림픽종목국제연맹 연합회), AIOWF(Association of Olympic Winter Federations/올림픽 동계종목국제연맹 연합회), ARISF(Association of IOC-Recognized International Sports Federations/IOC인정종목 국제연맹 연합회)및 AIMS(Alliance of Independent Recognized Members of Sport/독자적 인정종목국제연맹 연합)라는 해당 영역을 관장하는 연합회들이 각기 해당기구소속 회원 단체들에게 이전 보다 더 많은 것들을 제공하여 줌으로 이것은 확실히 긍정적인 것임”(GAISF has long served useful functions and purposes. However, it has experienced a significant reduction of the scope of its activities over the past few years. For example, the umbrella organizations, which also represent GAISF Members, cover collective services for their own members and they can do so at a more specific level. ASOIF, AIOWF, ARISF, and AIMS – are doing more for their Members than ever before and this is certainly positive) “이처럼, GAISF 이사회는 이 같은 각 연합회활동이 진전 발전되어오고 있는 현상의 논리적인 귀결 도출을 모색해야 한다는 결론에 이르게 되었음-이러한 이유로 GAISF기구해체를 결정하기 위하여 오는 9월 임시총회가 소집될 것임을 오늘 공표하는 바임”(As such, the GAISF Council has come to the conclusion that the logical consequence of these developments has to be explored. This is why we today announce that an Extraordinary General Meeting will be called, in September, to decide on the dissolution of GAISF)

GAISF는 일전에 사우디 아라비아 에게 2023년 세계격투기대회 개최권을 이미 부여한 바 있으므로 동 대회개최여부가 불투명해 지고 있습니다.
GAISF는 실질적으로는 대형 조직이 아니며 2021년 말 전체 자산이 566만 4천 스위스 프랑(assets of CHF 5.664 million)정도였으며 만일 해체된다면 신속하게 종료될 수 있을 정도(could be wrapped up pretty quickly)라고 합니다.
