[에어컨 없는 구조로 지어진 Paris2024올림픽선수촌에 각국 선수단 불만 해소용 2,500세트 이동형 임시 에어컨 유료제공방안 제시하다]
Paris2024올림픽선수촌은 당초 에어컨 없이 가동되도록 디자인되었지만 호주와 미국을 포함한 다양한 NOCs들의 요청으로 자비조건으로 약 2,500세트의 이동 형 임시 에어컨장비가 제공될 것이라고 합니다.
Paris2024올림픽을 위해 새롭게 건축된 올림픽선수촌 계획의 핵심 요소(A signature element of the plan for the newly-built Olympic Village)는 환경적인 지속 가능성으로 에어컨 설비에서 나오는 공기를 없애고 대신 특별 바닥 아래를 통한 냉방 시스템으로 적정 온도를 유지하는(environmental sustainability, leading to the elimination of air conditioning in the units and a special under-floor cooling system to maintain moderate temperatures)컨셉이라고 합니다.
하지만 그런 것으로는 수 많은 나라들의 선수들이 메달 경쟁에 돌입하는 과정에 열기 등을 포함하여 경기력에 영향을 줄 수 있는 방해 요소를 최소화 하고 싶어하기 때문에 탐탁치 않게 느껴지지 않는(not good enough for multiple countries, whose athletes will be competing for medals and want to minimize any disturbances which could impact their performances, including heat) 상황에서 호주올림픽위원회 위원장인 Matt Carroll은 2023년 12월에 “우리는 탄소 발자국으로 인해 에어컨을 설치하지 않겠다는 컨셉에 감사는 하지만 우리는 피크닉을 가는 것이 아님” (We appreciate the concept of not having air conditioning due to the carbon footprint. But it is a high-performance Games. We’re not going for a picnic. “우리는 열기와 인체 그리고 꿀 잠자는 방법과 온도 몇 도가 최상 인지에 대한 이해도를 가진 열기 전문가를 지명하였음”(We’ve appointed a heat specialist, who understands the heat, the human body and how to sleep well, and at what temperature that is best achieved.) “우리가 Paris 2024조직위원회에 설명해 온 바와 같이 선수들의 경기가 야간에 치러지기 때문에 낮 동안 잠을 자 두어야함. 낮 동안은 가장 뜨거울 때일 것임. 그것이 우리로 하여금 임시 에어컨 설비를 선수들 방과 팬들을 위해서 설치하게끔 하는 결정을 내리도록 정보를 준 동기임.”(As we’ve explained to the Paris Organizing Committee, athletes have got to sleep during the day, because their events are at night. Daytime will be when it’s hottest. That’s been informing our decision in putting temporary air conditioners in the athletes’ rooms and also fans.)
Matt Carroll은 호주올림픽위원회(AOC)는 “그것이 지출 경비이긴 하지만 감당할 만하다”(It’s an expense, but we believe we’ll be able to manage it)고 믿고 있음을 주목하면서 환경 통제에 A$10만불을 지출할 것(spend A$100,000 on the environmental controls)이라고 언급하였다고 합니다.
드디어 7월2일(화) Paris2024조직위원회는 AFP에게 개별올림픽위원회에 자비부담으로 요청할 경우를 대비하여 총 7천여 개 선수촌 숙소에(at the request – and expense – of individual National Olympic Committees, across some 7,000 total rooms in the Olympic Village) 2,500세트의 임시 에어컨 설비를 설치할 것임(2,500 temporary air-conditioning units would be installed)을 확인시켜주었다고 합니다
올림픽선수촌 부국장인 Augustin Tran Van Chau는 기자들에게 “그 취지는 선수들의 인생이 걸린 기합이나 경기를 앞두고 있은 상황과 대한 매우 구체적인 해결방안을 마련해 주려는 것이며 보통 정상적인 여름철보다 더 높은 온도에 있는 상황 회복과 안락을 필요로 하는 선수들을 위한 것임”(The aim was to provide a very specific solution for athletes who are facing the match or competition of their lives... and who might have requirements for their comfort and recovery which are higher than in a normal summer.) “대략 2,500기 정도의 에어컨 설치 주문이 들어왔음”(Around 2,500 A/Cs have been ordered.)이라고 설명하였다고 합니다.
호주 외에 캐나다, 독일, 영국, 이태리, 일본 및 미국이(in addition to Australia, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Japan and the U.S.) 올림픽선수촌 자국선수들숙소에 에어컨 설비 보충에 따른 제공을 하고 있는 것으로 알려지고 있다(known to be providing supplemental air conditioning for their athlete rooms in the Village)고 합니다.
