IOC는 성명서를 통하여(in a statement) IOC가 UN안전보장이사회제재위원회에게 북한 반입금지물품 리스트에서 스포츠용품을 제외시켜달라고 요청하였다(asked the UN Security Council Sanctions Committee to remove sporting goods from the list of banned exports to North Korea )고 밝힌 것으로 알려졌습니다.

미국과 북한간의 긴장상태는 Trump미대통령과 김정은 북한 지도자가 지난 6월 정상회담을 한 이래 약간 완화되었지만(eased slightly since a summit between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in June) 양국관계는 긴장이 가시지 않고 있는 상태(relations remain strained)라고 합니다
IOC에 의하면, 2006년 북한의 첫 번째 핵실험에 대한 반응으로 설치된(established in 2006 in response to North Korea's first nuclear test)UN안전보장이사회 제재위원회에 의해 요청사항이 현재 숙고되고 있다(the request is currently being deliberated by the Security Council Sanctions Committee)고 합니다.

A. "We hope there can be a positive result in the interest of these athletes, and that such a move can also facilitate the IOC to continue to contribute to the thawing of tensions on the Korean peninsula through sport, as we have succeeded in doing during the Olympic Winter Games Pyeongchang 2018 with the joint march." B. "We are grateful to the UN Security Council Sanctions Committee that they granted an exemption for the equipment having been provided by the IOC to North Korean athletes during the Games and would hope that this can be extended." (우리는 UN안전보장이사회 제재위원회가 IOC로 하여금 북한선수들에게 제공한 스포츠용품에 대한 면제조치승인에 대하여 감사하며 이러한 조치가 확대될 수 있게 되길 희망하는 바임)

이 같은 요청사항은 북한이 올림픽참가가 용이하도록 IOC가 지속적으로 시도하고 있는 과정에서(as the organisation continues to attempt to facilitate North Korean participation at the Olympics) 나온 것이라고 합니다.
북한선수들이 Tokyo2020 올림픽 및 패럴림픽과 Beijing2022동게올림픽 및 패럴림픽 참가준비에 따른 출전자격획득이 가능하도록 허용해 주는 특별 프로그램(a special programme to allow North Korean athletes to prepare and to qualify for Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022)이 현재 IOC에 의해 고안되고(currently being worked on by the IOC) 있다고 합니다.

지난 3월 김정은 북한 지도자는 평양에서 Bach IOC위원장과의 회동에서 북한의Tokyo2020 및 Beijing2022참가를 약속하였던 것으로 보도된 바(reportedly committed to his country participating at Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022 during a meeting with Bach in Pyongyang) 있다고 합니다.
Tokyo 2020관계자들은 진행중인 일본과 북한간의 긴장상태 와중에(amid ongoing tension between Japan and North Korea) 은둔국가출신 선수들의 대회 참가에 대하여 신중하게 접근하도록 촉구하였던 바(previously urged a cautious approach to competitors from the reclusive nation participating at the event) 있다고 합니다.
일본정부에 의하면1977년~1983년사이 6년 간17명의 일본국민들이 북한정부 공작원들에 의해 납치된 것(as having been abducted by agents of the North Korean Government )으로 공식적으로 인정되고(officially recognised by the country's Government) 있다고 합니다.
