소치2014동계올림픽개회식(Sochi 2014 Opening Ceremony)주제: «러시아가 세계를 환영합니다 »(Russia welcomes the world.)

2014년 2월7일 저녁 무렵 소치 Ficht 올림픽 주경기장 내부에 운집한 관람객들은 전 세계 TV시청자들과 함께 숨막힐 정도로 짜릿한(breath-taking) 제 22회 동계올림픽 개회식을 목격하는데 모두 동참하였습니다.

 

3시간 짜리 웅장한 행사는 스포츠 아이콘들(sporting icons)과 발레스타들(ballet stars), 곡예사들과 심지어 우주비행사들(acrobats and even cosmonauts)을 포함하여 총망라된 수 천명의 초호화 배역(a cast of thousands)이 놀라울 정도로 화려하게 러시아 역사와 문화를 수놓아 펼치며 올림피즘에 경의를 담은(a tribute to Olympism) 콘텐츠를 함께 결합한 축하기념의 장을 표현하였는데 모두 러시아 클래식 음악을 음악적인 배경으로 깔고(all set against a musical backdrop of Russian classical music) 연출되었습니다.

 

 

 

흑해 해안을 따라 점화된 거대한 불꽃놀이 배열로써 (as a fireworks display lit up the Black Sea coastline)개회식의 개막 배열 순서를 통하여(in the opening sequences of the Ceremony) 청중들(the audience)이 알파벳 순으로 몰입된(treated to an alphabetic evocation) 러시아 역사를 빛낸 위대한 인물들과 순간들을 이끌어 내는 장면들로 심취되도록 연출되었습니다.

 

주경기장 내부에는 캄차카의 화산들(the volcanos of Kamchatka)부터 우랄산맥의 산림(the forests of the Urals)과 시베리아의 결빙 된 바이칼 호수(Siberia’s icebound Lake Baikal)에 이르기까지 떠서 움직이는 섬들(floating islands)을 통하여 러시아의 광활하고 다양한 풍광(Russia’s vast and varied landscape)을 표현하기도 하였습니다.

 

무대는 대회의 주역을 담당할 주인공들을 위한 입구로 설치되어 있었습니다(The stage was set for the entrance of the Games’ main protagonists.)

과거 전형적인 올림픽개회식 관례/전통을 깨뜨리면서 모든 올림픽 개회식의 핵심요소들인 선수행진 퍼레이드(the Parade of Athletes)를 저녁행사의 대미를 장식하게 하지 않고 초장 행사 순서가 되도록 연출하였습니다.

 

개회식의 무대는 3시간짜리 음악, 불꽃놀이 및 숨막히게 하는 안무(breath-taking choreography) 등으로 구성된 초대형 행사를 위해 세팅 되기도 하였습니다

 

87개국 올림픽 참가 선수단들이 관례적으로 그리스선수단을 선두로 하여 대미를 장식한 (culminating with the host nation)개최국 러시아 선수단으로 마무리 되었는바 모든 선수단들이 관중들의 열광적인 박수갈채를 받으며 (rapturous applause) 한나라씩 Ficht 올림픽 스타디움 안으로 속속 입장하였습니다.

 

개최국 러시아 선수단은 봅슬레이 선도 선수(pilot)인 Alexander Zubkov를 필두로(spearheaded by) 행진하였습니다

각국 선수단 행진 퍼레이드 후 초대형 팽창 모형 형태의 65m짜리 나란히 선 대형 말 세 마리(troika)와 모스크바의 아이콘인 성 바실 성당이 스타디움으로 입장하면서 관중들은 열광의 도가니로 몰입하였습니다(the crowds were wowed by the entrance into the stadium of a 65-metre long troika and a giant inflatable structure in the form Moscow’s iconic St Basil’s Cathedral.)

그리고 나서 많은 대포들이 쏘아대는 폭발음에 맞추어 1917년 발발한 러시아 혁명 묘사에 뒤 이어 환상적인 17세기 짜르(tsar/황제)였던 피터 대제(Peter the Great)의 거대 군단이 스타디움전체를 사로잡았습니다

 

개회식 전체를 통틀어 차이코프스키(Tchaikovsky)와 프로코피예프(Prokoviev)와 같은 러시아가 낳은 러시아의 가장 위대한 클래식 작곡가들의 작품들이 감동적인 선율의 배경음악으로 스타디움을 통해 그 너머에 울려 퍼졌습니다(Throughout the Ceremony, the music of Russia’s greatest classical composers such as Tchaikovsky and Prokoviev resonated through the stadium and beyond, providing a stirring backdrop.)

Dmitry Chernyshenko 2014년 소치 동계올림픽 조직위원장이 플랫폼에 등장한 첫 번 째 연사(speaker)였는데 그는 선수들과 세계 각국에서 몰려든 대표들과 팬들에게 러시아 도시이며 ‘러시아의 모든 것처럼 독특하고 유럽과 세계에서 가장 광활한 나라인 러시아의 관문인 소치에 온 것을 환영하면서 전 세계를 품게 된 특권을 자랑스럽게 여기고 있다는 요지의 메시지를 전달하였습니다:

“Welcome to the 2014 Olympics Winter Games in Sochi. Our city is unique, as all of Russia is unique. (소치 동계올림픽에 오신 것을 환영함. 소치는 러시아의 모든 것과 마찬가지로 독특함)

It is the largest country in the world where Europe meets Russia. We are proud to have the privilege to host the entire world."(세계에서 제일 가장 광활한 나라인 러시아와 유럽이 만나는 관문이 소치임. 전 세계를 이곳에서 품게 되어 자랑스러움)

이 장면은 올림픽 역사의 새로운 페이지였습니다.

그 다음 Thomas Bach IOC 위원장이 중앙무대에 등장하여 조직위원회 관계자들의 노고를 먼저 치하하면서 다음과 같은 메시지를 전했습니다:

"Welcome to the XXII Olympic Winter Games. Tonight, we are writing a new page in Olympic history.”(소치 동계올림픽에 온 것을 환영, 올림픽 역사의 새로운 페이지를 함께 쓰고 있음)

“What took decades in other parts of the world, has been achieved here in just seven years. This is a remarkable achievement.”(세계 다른 지역에서 수 십 년이 걸릴 대 역사가 단지 7년 만에 성취됨. 괄목할만한 성과임)

그는 이어서 자원봉사정신에 입각하여 봉사함으로써 소치2014를 위해 기초를 닦아준 모든 러시아 일반 시민들의 노고를 치하하였습니다:

 "Thousands of volunteers have welcomed us with the well-known warm Russian hospitality. Many thanks to all of the volunteers.”(수 만 명의 자원봉사자들이 그 유명한 러시아 식 환영방식으로 우리 모드를 환영해 줌. 수 많은 자원봉사자들에게 감사를 포함)

IOC위원장은 이어 올림픽 이상과 올림피즘 실현을 위한 홍보대사의 역할을 감동적으로 수행하고 있음을 상기시켜준 선수들에 대해 언급하였습니다.:

"Russia and the Russians have set the stage for you, the best winter athletes on the planet. From this moment on, you are not only the best athletes, you are Olympic athletes. You will inspire us with your outstanding sports performances.”(러시아와 러시아 국민들이 지구상의 최고 동계 선수들인 여러분에게 무대를 제공함. 이 순간부터 여러분은 최고 기량의 선수들인 동시에 올림픽 선수들이며 뛰어난 경기력을 발휘하여 우리에게 감동을 선사할 것임)

 

 

“You have come here with your Olympic dream. The International Olympic Committee wants your Olympic Dream to come true. This is why we are investing almost all of our revenues in the worldwide development of sports. The universal Olympic rules apply to each and every athlete - no matter where you come from or what your background is.” (여러분은 올림픽의 꿈을 가지고 이곳이 옴. IOC는 여러분의 올림픽 꿈이 실현되기를 원하고 있음. 바로 그것이 우리가 가지고 있는 거의 모든 수입금을 전 세계 스포츠 발전을 위하여 투자하고 있는 이유임. 여러분의 출신지가 어디든 또는 여러분의 배경이 어떻든지 간에 보편적인 올림픽 규칙들이 여러분 각자 모두에게 적용될 것임)

 

"Yes, it’s possible - even as competitors - to live together under one roof in harmony, with tolerance and without any form of discrimination for whatever reason. Yes, it is possible - even as competitors - to listen, to understand and to give an example for a peaceful society."(선수들로서도 화합과 관용과 어떤 이유로도 차별함이 없이 한 지붕아래서 함께 동고동락하는 것이 가능한 것임. 선수들로서도 평화로운 사회를 위한 경청하고 이해하고 모범을 보이는 것도 가능한 것임)

"Olympic Games are always about building bridges to bring people together. Olympic Games are never about erecting walls to keep people apart. Olympic Games are a sports festival embracing human diversity in great unity."(올림픽은 언제나 사람과 사람을 이어주는 교량을 건설하는 것이 그 핵심 주제임. 올림픽은 사람들을 갈라 놓는 장벽들을 세우는 것이 결코 아님. 올림픽은 인류의 다양성을 위대한 단합정신으로 품어 포용하는 스포츠 제전임)

"Therefore I say to the political leaders of the world: Thank you for supporting your athletes - they are the best ambassadors of your country. Please respect their Olympic Message of good will, of tolerance, of excellence and of peace. Have the courage to address your disagreements in a peaceful, direct political dialogue and not on the backs of these athletes."(따라서 세계의 정치지도자들에게 다음과 같이 고하고자 함: ‘여러분 국가대표 선수들 지원해 주심에 감사함-선수들이야말로 각국의 최고의 홍보대사들임. 청컨대 친선과 관용과 우수함과 평화라는 올림픽 메시지를 존중해 주시기 바람. 평화롭고 직접적인 정치적 대화 가운데 반대 견해를 펼치시되 이러한 선수들 격려하는 데는 반대하지 마시길 바람.)

 

 

 

 

소치 표준시각 오후 22시26분, IOC위원장은 Vladimor Putin 러시아 대통령에게 다음 순서를 넘겨주었으며 푸틴 대통령을 정해진 시간 규정을 준수하여(in time-honored fashion) 올림픽 개회를 선포하였습니다.

 

 

러시아의 소프라노 가수인Anna Netrebko는 러시아 쇼트트랙 스피드 스케이팅 대표선수인 Ruslan Zakharov가 모든 참가선수들을 대표하여 올림픽선서(the Olympic oath)를 위해 무대에 등장하기에 앞서 올림픽 찬가(the Olympic Anthem)를 구성지게 연출하였으며 (performed a moving rendition of the Olympic Anthem) Vyacheslav Vedenin는 모든 참가 심판들(judges)을 대표하여 심판 선서를, Anastasia Popkova는 모든 참가국 코치들을 대표하여 코치 선서를 하였습니다.

이어서 러시아의 스포츠 전설적 선수들(Russian legends)이 성화대에 점화하였습니다(light the cauldron)

이날 소치 시각 22:32분에는 올림픽 기(the Olympic flag)가 8명의 러시아 저명 선수들에 의해 스타디움으로 옮겨졌는데(the Olympic flag was borne into the stadium by eight famous Russians), 각각 다른 분야에서 두각을 나타냈던 인물들로(each prominent in a different field)구성된 바 있습니다:

 

1)  우주비행사(cosmonaut) Valentina Tereshkova(최초 여성우주비행사/the first woman to travel into space),

2)  동계올림픽 빙상 6차례 우승자(six-time Olympic speed skating champion) Lidiya Skoblikova,

3)  영화감독(film director)Nikita Mikhailkov,

4)  여자 영화배우(actress) Chulpan Khamatova,

5)  기자(journalist) Anastasia Popova,

6)  아이스하키 전설(ice hockey legend) Vyacheslav Fetisov,

7)  지휘자(conductor) Valeriy Gergiev,  

8)  가상 자동차경주우승자(virtual racing driving champion) Alan Enileev.

Mr President of the Russian Federation,

Mr Secretary General of the United Nations,

Dear Olympic friends and fans around the world!

Welcome to the 22nd Olympic Winter Games!

Tonight, we are writing a new page in Olympic history.

These are the first ever Olympic Games organised in the new Russia. We have come here with great respect for the rich and varied history of Russia, and for the many peoples who have always been part of this country. The Russians' deep desire for their own wintersport resort was so great because of their passion for sports on snow and ice. What took decades in other parts of the world, has been achieved here in just seven years. This is a remarkable

achievement.

I would like to thank in particular the President of the Russian Federation and his government,

the Sochi Organising Committee, the Russian Olympic Committee and the IOC Members in Russia for their outstanding determination, commitment and their dedication to Olympic sports.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Thank you to all the workers for your great contribution under sometimes difficult circumstances.

Thank you to all the people of Sochi and the Krasnodar region. Thank you for your patience, thank you for your understanding during these years of transformation. Now you are living in an Olympic Region. I am sure you will enjoy the benefits for many, many years to come.

Thousands of volunteers have welcomed us with the well-known warm Russian hospitality. Many thanks to all the volunteers. Bolshoi spasiba, valantyoram!

Russia and the Russians have set the stage for you, the best winter athletes on our planet.

From this moment on you are not only the best athletes, you are Olympic Athletes. You will inspire us with your outstanding sports performances.

You have come here for sport.

The International Olympic Committee wants your Olympic Dream to come true. This is why we are investing almost all of our revenues in the worldwide development of sports.

The universal Olympic rules apply to each and every athlete- no matter where you come from or what your background is. You are living together in the Olympic Village. You will celebrate victory with dignity and accept defeat with dignity. You are bringing the Olympic Values to life.

In this way, the Olympic Games, wherever they take place, set an example for a peaceful society. Olympic Sport unites the people.

 

 

This is the Olympic Message the athletes spread to the host country and to the whole world:

-Yes, it is possible to strive even for the greatest victory with respect for the dignity of your competitors.

-Yes, it is possible - even as competitors- to live together under one roof in harmony, with tolerance and without any form of discrimination for whatever reason.

-Yes, it is possible - even as competitors - to listen, to understand and to give an example for a peaceful society.

Olympic Games are always about building bridges to bring people together.

Olympic Games are never about erecting walls to keep people apart.

Olympic Games are a sports festival embracing human diversity in great unity.

Therefore I say to the political leaders of the world:

- Thank you for supporting your athletes - they are the best ambassadors of your country.

- Please respect their Olympic Message of good will, of tolerance, of excellence and of peace.

- Have the courage to address your disagreements in a peaceful, direct political dialogue and not on the backs of these athletes.

To all sports officials and sports fans I say:

- Join and support our fight for fair play - the athletes deserve it.

And to you - my fellow Olympic Athletes - I say:

- Respect the rules

- Play fair

- Be clean

- Respect your fellow athletes in and out of competition.

We all wish you joy in your Olympic effort and a wonderful Olympic experience.

To all of you - Athletes, Officials, Spectators and Fans around our globe - I say:

Enjoy the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi 2014!

And now I have the honour of inviting the President of the Russian Federation,

Mister Vladimir Putin, to declare open the 22nd Olympic Winter Games, Sochi, Russia.

 

 

 

그리고 나서 러시아 스포츠 계 6명의 전설적 인물들에 의해 올림픽 성화(the Olympic torch)가 릴레이 방식으로(relay style) 운반되었는데(was transported) 맨 먼저 소치 출신인 테니스 스타(tennis star)Maria Sharapova가 스타디움으로 성화를 들고 입장하여 러시아 여성 장대 높이뛰기 우승자(pole vault champion) Yelena Isinbayeva에게 인계하였습니다.

그 다음, 성화는 러시아 레슬링 우승자인(wrestling champion) Aleksandr Karelin 그리고 리듬체조 스타(rhythmic gymnastics sta) Alina Kabayeva를 거쳐 최종적으로 전 아이스 스케이팅 선(former ice skater)인 Irina Rodnina와 아이스하키 골키퍼(ice hockey keeper)인 Vladislav Tretiak 에게 인계되었는데 이 두 선수 모두 올림픽 3관왕(both triple Olympic gold medalists)로서 올림픽 성화대에 점화한 최종 성화봉송 주자 군으로서 임부를 완성한 바 있습니다(to complete the final leg of the relay and light the Olympic cauldron)

피날레를 장식하는 극적인 불꽃놀이 직후, 개회식 무대는 이렇게 끝나면서 이제 소치는 마찬가지로 극적인 16일 간의 경기를 위해 세팅 되었습니다(the stage was set for 16 days of equally dramatic competition)
