2020년 9 월21일 "국제 평화의 날"(International Day of Peace)을 맞이하여 Thomas Bach IOC위원장은 메시지를 통하여 3가지 기념비적인 국제스포츠이벤트를 언급하였다:
1)평창2018동계올림픽 남북한 단일팀(여자 아이스하키)성사
2)인종차별정책(Apartheid)종식 후 남아공 개최 1995년 세계럭비선수권대회에서 Nelson Mandela가남아공 팀에게 트로피를 수여하는 순간
3)올림픽 난민팀(Olympic Refugee Team)탄생과 이들이 Rio2016올림픽개회식에서 올림픽기를 앞세우고 행진과 동료 선수들 및 관중들의 환호
특히 올림픽난민 팀의 기억을 상기하면서 Bach IOC위원장은 "오늘 아직도 소름이 돋을 정도로 감동적이다(it still gives me goosebumps today)고 토로하였다.

1) Sport contributes to peace by unifying people. (스포츠는 사람들을 결속시킴으로 평화에 공헌한다)
2) The Olympic Games today are the only event in our world which manages to really bring the entire world together. (오늘날 올림픽이야말로 전세계를 하나로 모이게 하는 유일무이한 이벤트다)
3) Athletes come to the Olympic Games respecting the same rules, all being equal, without any discrimination. (선수들은 동일한 규칙을 준하며 상호 평등한 가운데 아무런 차별 없이 올림픽대회에 참가한다)
4) This post-coronavirus world will be very different from the one we used to live in. (포스트코로나의 세상은 우리가 살아왔던 세상과는 이제 매우 다르게 전개될 것이다)
5) And I hope that we all have learned from this crisis that we need more solidarity, within societies and among societies. (우리 모두는 이러한 위기로부터 우리가 각자가 속한 사회공동체내에서 그리고 사회공동체 간에 단결이 더욱 절실하게 필요하다는 사실을 체득하기를 희망한다)

10) We are supporting this principle, not only by organising the Olympic Games, but also by distributing 90 per cent of all our revenues to the development of sport worldwide in real Olympic solidarity.
