Thomas Bach 현 IOC위원장은 1976년 당시 독일연방공화국/서독(Federal Republic of Germany)올림픽 국가대표선수로 Montreal1976올림픽 펜싱 남자 플뢰레 종목(foil) 금메달리스트입니다. 43년이 경과한 지금 그는 IOC위원장으로 전 세계올림픽운동 대통령 격이다.

1. IOC본부 열쇠(올림픽 옥쇄/Royal Olympic Seal) 인수인계 전달식(a handover ceremony)
2013년 12월10일 내부수리 후 새롭게 단장한 스위스 로잔 시내에 소재 올림픽 박물관에서 Thomas Bach IOC위원장이 전임 IOC위원장(현 IOC명예위원장)인 Jacques Rogge로부터 IOC본부 열쇠를 건네 받음으로써 공식적인 IOC본부의 새 주인이 되었다.

본부 열쇠 전달식에는 IOC집행위원들과 로잔느 시가 속한 Vaud Canton주 및 로잔느 시 당국 대표자들 그리고 약 200명 가량의 게스트들이 참석하였다고 한다.

“Many thanks for this symbolic act of handing over the key, which is now a traditional part of IOC history. We both know very well that this handover includes the challenge of taking on the huge demands and responsibility of this office.”
“You(Rogge) have left the Olympic Movement a solid foundation and you have every reason to be proud of your great achievement, which has benefited sport worldwide. Here, this evening, we would like to express to you our gratitude, recognition and respect.”
2. 필자의 평창2018 Bach IOC위원장 첫 감사표시 헌시4행시(4 Line Poem)
평창2018 성공적 개최의 상당부분은 Thomas Bach IOC위원장의 ‘평
화올림픽’(a Peace Olympics)성사를 위해 헌신한 그의 정교한 내공과
물 샐 틈 없는 탁월한 스포츠 외교력과 지도력 덕분이라고 생각한다.
마침 그의 공로에 대한 감사선물을 선사할 기회가 찾아왔다.
2018년 3월10일, 평창2018 동계 패럴림픽 개회식(3월8일)에 초대 되어 한달 만에 재 방문한
Thomas Bach IOC위원장은 이틀 후 최명희 강릉 시장의 초청으로 강릉시청을 방문하였다.
그 자리는 Bach IOC위원장에대한 강릉명예시민증 수여식 자리였으며
저도 동 행사에 초대되어 명예자원봉사자로서 행사의전절차 진행 및 분
위기 메이커 그리고 일일 통역 등1인 3역의 역할로 섬긴 바 있다.
명예시민증 수여식 및 환담자리 후 강릉 전통 식으로 차린 오찬 환담자리
에서 공식통역사 대타로 오랜 만에 명예 일일 통역사로서 분위기 돋으
며 서울1988당시 사마란치 IOC위원장 통역이래 실로 30년 만에 IOC
위원장 통역 섬김도 감당해 보았다.
환담 막간을 이용하여 저는 Thomas Bach IOC위원장에게 다음과 같이 발언
하였다:
“As a token of my appreciation for your exquisite and insightful contribution to the
greatest success of PyeongChang2018, I would like to pay tribute to you with a 4-
line poem I wrote right this morning.”
Bach IOC President had no reason to refuse my goodwill present
of 4-line poem as a tribute to him with his last name spelling of
“BACH”
I started to pronounce my 4-line poem present dedicated to IOC
President Thomas Bach as follows:
“B—Brilliant
A—Amazing and
C—Charismatic
H—Hero of Heroes”
Upon departure at the end of his visit of Gangneung City Hall, I handed over to him the 4-line poem I hand-wrote on that morning.
IOC President seemed pleased, and he appreciated my gesture,
saying “I will keep it to my heart” with 4-line poem paper note
put in his dress shirt pocket near his heart.

3. 스위스 Lausanne IOC본부 위원장집무실에서 Bach IOC위원장에게 헌시한 두 번 째 4행시(Four Line Poem)로 풀어낸 Tokyo2020올림픽 성화봉송 컨셉 “Hope Lights Our Way” 스케치
Tokyo2020올림픽 성화봉송 컨셉(Olympic Torch Relay Concept)은 “Hope to light the way for Tokyo2020” (희망이 도쿄올림픽으로 가는 길을 밝혀준다)로 지난 2018년 4월11자로 발표된 바 있었다.
지난 2018년 4월 하순 평창2018 동계올림픽 빙상개최특별시인 강릉시의 올림픽박물관 임시개장을 앞두고 최명희 강릉시장 일행과 함께 스위스 로잔느 소재 올림픽 박물관 및 IOC본부를 공식방문 한 바 있다.

IOC 올림픽박물관(TOM: The Olympic Museum)과 강릉올림픽박물관(GOM: Ganneung Olympic Museum)과의 교류협력을 위한 양해각서(MoU: Memorandum of Understanding)체결에 앞서 Thomas Bach 위원장의 현장 즉석초대에 따른 개별 면담이 마련되어 함께 참석한 바 있다.

이 자리에서 필자는 지난 2018년3월 강릉시청 면담 시 Bach IOC위원장의 평창2018성공개최 기여에 대하여 헌시했던 4행시에 이어 두 번째 4행시를 작시하여 발표하고 헌시메모지를 Bach IOC위원장에게 다시금 증정한 바 있다.
