로게 위원장님, IOC위원 여러분, 신사숙녀 여러분,

안녕하십니까? 저는 평창 2018의 유치위원회의 대변인 나승연입니다.

저는 남아프리카 스포츠 연합과 올림픽위원회의 샘 기데온 위원장님과 터비 레디 CEO, 제123회 IOC총회의 조직위원회 및 아름다운 도시 더반의 국민들께 환대해 주셔서 감사하다는 말을 전하고 싶습니다. 또한 남아프리카 공화국 IOC 위원인 샘 램사미님께도 감사드리고 그의 아름다운 고향인 더반에 대해 찬사를 드립니다.

Good afternoon, my name is Theresa Rah and I am the Communications Director for PyeongChang 2018.

We would like to thank President Gideon Sam and CEO Tubby Reddy of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee, the Organizers of the 123rd IOC Session and the beautiful city of Durban for their hospitality this week. We would also like to recognize Mr. Sam Ramsamy, IOC member South Africa, and congratulate him on his beautiful hometown of Durban.

문대성 IOC 위원입니다.

올림픽 무브먼트에 새로이 합류하게 된 저로서 지난 몇 달간 유치에 참여하고 여러분을 뵐 수 있게 되어 새로운 배움의 경험이었습니다.

올림픽대회의 매력과 장엄함, 올림픽 가치의 불변의 지혜, 조직위원회의 결속력 및 동지애 같은 요소들은 진정으로 특별한 것이 아닐 수 없습니다.

저는 또한 좀더 흥미로운 점들을 배웠습니다. 바로 올림픽 무브먼트에게 있어 단어들이 매우 중요하다는 점입니다.

단어들은 우리에게 영감을 줄 수 있고, 불가능해 보이는 것들을 믿도록 하는 힘도 있습니다.

10년 전, 많은 사람들은 한국이 동계 스포츠를 주최하는 것은 불가능하다고 생각했습니다.

그리고 두 번의 유치 실패 이후, 우리 역시 불가능 하다고 믿을 뻔 했습니다.

하지만 우리는 가능하다고 믿었습니다.

For someone like me who is new to the Olympic Movement, working on this bid and meeting with you over these past months has been an extraordinary learning experience.

The beauty and majesty of the Olympic Games, the eternal wisdom of the Olympic values and the solidarity and fraternity that the IOC itself represents is truly unique outside of the Olympic Movement.

I have also learned something else quite interesting: words are very important in the Olympic Movement.

Words can inspire us to take action, and they can even make us believe in the seemingly impossible.

Ten years ago, many people thought hosting the Winter Games in Korea was impossible.

And after our previous bids, we could have been tempted to believe that as well.

But we didn't.

매번 실망한 후에, 우리는 다시 털고 일어나 다시 재정비하고, 여러분의 말씀에 귀 기울였으며 실수를 통해 교훈을 얻었습니다.  그리고 우리는 재도전했습니다.

이러한 역경을 이겨내기 위해, 우리는 두 개의 중요한 단어에만 집중했습니다. 바로 끈기와 인내심이었습니다.

이 두 단어는 스포츠에도 중요한 단어이지만, 한국 문화에도 깊게 새겨져 있습니다. 지난 60년 동안 이 단어들은 우리 국가 및 사람들에게 더 나은 미래에 대한 믿음과 희망을 가져다주었습니다.

평창 2018을 준비하는 우리의 New Horizons 이라는 비전 또한 희망과 관련되어 있습니다.

우리는 올림픽 무브먼트를 홍보하고 동계 스포츠가 더욱 발전하여 전 세계 새로운 지역에 알려질 수 있도록... 예전에 경험하지 못했던 새로운 가능성의 유산을 남기는 것입니다.

오늘 여러분의 지지를 받기 위해, 우리는 평창 2018이 단지 한국만이 아닌, 올림픽 무브먼트에게 명확한 혜택을 선사해야 한다는 것을 알고 있습니다.

평창 2018은 예전에나 지금이나, 한국만을 위한 것이 아닙니다.

After each disappointment, we got up; we dusted ourselves off, we listened to you and learned from our mistakes - and we tried again.

To get through these challenges, we focused on two important words - persistence and patience.

These two words are vital to sport, but they are also deeply embedded in Korean culture. For over 60 years, these two words have provided our nation and its people with a belief in, and hope for, a brighter future.

Our vision for PyeongChang 2018, which we call New Horizons, is also about hope.

We want to promote the Olympic Movement and to help grow winter sport to new regions of the world…to leave a legacy of new potential like never before.

To earn your support here today, we know that PyeongChang 2018 has to express a clear benefit to the Olympic Movement, not just to Korea.

PyeongChang 2018 is not, nor has it ever been, just about Korea.

우리의 꿈은 전 세계 곳곳에 동계 스포츠의 혜택을 보지 못하고 있는 지역의 선수들이 동계올림픽 및 패럴림픽에 참가하는 모습을 보고 싶습니다. 심지어 평창마저도.

우리는 그것이 아주 커다란 꿈이라는 걸 알고 있습니다.

올림픽 무브먼트는 우리 모두에게 큰 꿈을 꿀 것을 요구하고, 여러분이 오늘 도와주신다면 평창 2018은 도전을 맞이할 준비가 되었습니다.

감사하다는 말씀드리며, 평창 2018의 조양호 위원장님을 소개해 드리겠습니다.

Our dream is to inspire athletes from new regions and to see them participating in future Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games…hopefully, even in PyeongChang.

We know that's a big dream.

But the Olympic Movement demands big dreams of all of us, and PyeongChang 2018 is ready to meet the challenge, with your support, here today.
