[Brief Report on the Temporary Opening of Gangneung Olympic Museum (GOM) and the Photo Gallery]

On 21 May (Mon.), the Opening Ceremony of the Gangneung Olympic Museum (GOM) took place at the site used as the PR Center of PyeognChang2018 Olympic and Paralymic Winter Games in the vicinity of the Gangneung Olympic Park.

 

The Opening Ceremony of the GOM was attended by more than 100 people including representatives of Gangneung citizens, civic groups, Gangneung Mayor Myung-Hee CHOI, Chairman of Gangneung City Council and invited guests

 

The Opening of GOM coincided with the celebration of G+100 days of the opening of PyeongChang2018.

 

The Grand Opening of the GOM was highlighted by the video message of IOC President Thomas Bach who stressed the importance of the unifying power of sport, following the successful organization of PyeongChang2018 where the athletes from NOCs of the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea marched together under one Korean Peninsula Unification Flag and the historic unified Korean team in the women’s ice hockey competitions for the first time in history. It brought together the people of the world in peace and harmony.

 

IOC President Thomas Bach also reiterated the continued support of the IOC in every step along the whole process of the formal completion and opening of the GOM at the Ice Arena used as competition venue for Figure and Short Track Speed Skating in the Gangneung Olympic Park during the PyeongChang2018.

 

IOC President Thomas Bach delivered his well-wishes for the role of the GOM in the future to educate and communicate with the next generation about the Olympic Spirit of Friendship and Solidarity as well as the Olympic Values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect.

 

The GOM will serve the purpose of the Number One project of the Olympic Legacy, following the conclusion of the PyeongChang2018.

 

Gangneung Mayor Myung-Hee CHOI also presented the Plaque of Appreciation to the donors of the Olympic Memorabilia and Collection items for the GOM, namely Prof, Rocky Kang-Ro YOON who donated more than 20,000 different kinds of Olympic related items collected through his 35-year long career in the Olympic Movement, and Mr. Jae-Chul YEON who donated a series of sport stamps/philately.

 

 

 

 

 

The ceremony was concluded by striking the Last Lab Bell used during the Skating competitions at the PyeognChang2018.
