[IOC, 인공지능(AI: Artificial Intelligence) 스포츠와 올림픽에 접목 사용 연구프로젝트 론칭]
IOC는 4월19일 London2012올림픽 및 패럴림픽의 산실인 영국 런던 소재 Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park안에 위치한 Lee Valley VeloPark에서 획기적인 발상에 근거하여(in a ground-breaking initiative) Olympic AI Agenda를 론칭 하였는데 체험 이벤트 동안 해당 이니셔티브가 도입되었다고 합니다.
Olympic AI Agenda는 Thomas Bach IOC위원장의 리더십하에서 론칭 되는 전략 문건 3부작 중 세번째(the third in a trilogy of strategy documents launched under the leadership of IOC President Thomas Bach)에 해당하는데 이는 2014년에 창출된 Olympic Agenda 2020와 2021년 3월 생성된 Olympic Agenda 2020+5에 이어진 3번째 작품입니다.
Bach IOC위원장은 글로벌 온라인 시청자들과 현장에 운집한 100여명의 기자들에게 주제를 소개하면서 “우리가 2014년 당시 우리의 포괄적인 개혁프로그램인 올림픽 어젠더를 론칭 하였을 때, ‘변화하지 않으면 변화 당한다’는 슬로건 하에 진행한 바 있는데 여기 영국에 계신 여러분은 ‘사느냐 죽느냐 이것이 문제로다’에 관한 것이므로 이러한 슬로건이 익숙할 것으로 사료됨. 오늘 우리는 올림픽의 독특함과 스포츠의 관련성을 확고히 하고자 또 한걸음을 내딛고자 하며 이것을 함으로 우리는 변화 당하는 객체가 아니라 변화를 주도하는 주체가 되어야 함. 오늘 디지털 가속적으로 발전 모드에 있는 디지털기술에 발 맞추어 특히 인공지능 분야에 있어 우리는 또 다시 그러한 기로에 놓여 있음”(When we launched Olympic Agenda, our comprehensive reform programme, in 2014, we did so under the slogan ‘change or be changed’ – for some of you here in Great Britain this may sound familiar, it’s about ‘To be, or not to be? That is the question’. Today we are making another step to ensure the uniqueness of the Olympic Games and the relevance of sport, and to do this, we have to be leaders of change, not the object of change. Today, with the ever-accelerating development of digital technology, and in particular AI, we are again at such a crossroads)이라고 말문을 열었다고 합니다.
IOC는 인공지능의 활용방안에 대한 연구를 위한 스포츠와 올림픽과 연계한 주요한 프로젝트를 론칭 하였으며 인공지능은 타이밍과 득점 시스템 및 방송과 같은 영역에서 기술 접목측면에서 이미 활용되고(already in use in technology applications such as timing and scoring and broadcasting) 있지만, 실무그룹은 여러 방안들 중 선수들 식별, 훈련 및 보호 수단 분야에 활용방안(its use for athlete identification, training and safeguarding uses, among others)을 지켜보고 있다고 합니다
지 지난주 런던에서 상당한 광고효과를 염두에 두고 론칭 에 나선 IOC는 인공지능의 가능성과 문제점들을 탐구하기 위하여(to explore the possibilities and problems of AI)다양한 연구 분야에 대하여 중점을 둔(outlining multiple areas of study) “Olympic AI Agenda”라는 신규 프로젝트를 선 보였다고 합니다:
● Talent Identification (재능 식별) ● Athlete Training (선수 훈련) ● Sports Equipment (스포츠 장비) ● Judging and Refereeing (심판 판정) ● Safeguarding in Sport (스포츠에서의 보호 수단) ● Organizing the Games (올림픽조직측면) ● Broadcasting the Olympics (올림픽방송분야) ● Enriching Historical Images(역사적 이미지 질적 향상 및 농축)
Bach IOC위원장은 “올림픽 AI어젠더의 중심에는 인간이 존재하는 것임. 이것은 바로 선수들인 바 왜냐하면 선수들 이야말로 올림픽운동의 심장이기 때문임. 사회전반의 다른 부분들과는 달리 우리는 스포츠에서 인공지능이 인간을 대체할 것인가의 여부에 대한 실존적 질문에 직면하고 있지 않고 있음. 스포츠에서 경기력은 항상 선수들이 펼쳐낼 것임. 100m 경주는 언제나 인간인 선수가 뛰어야 하는 몫일 것임. 따라서 우리는 선수들을 지원하기 위한 인공지능의 잠재력 부분에 집중할 수 있는 것임”(At the centre of the Olympic AI Agenda are human beings. This means: the athletes. Because the athletes are the heart of the Olympic Movement. Unlike other sectors of society, we in sport are not confronted with the existential question of whether AI will replace human beings. In sport, the performances will always have to be delivered by the athletes. The 100 metres will always have to be run by an athlete – a human being. Therefore, we can concentrate on the potential of AI to support the athletes) “인공지능은 세계 어디서나 선수들과 재능을 식별하는데 도움을 줄 수 있으며 인공지능은 더 많은 선수들에게 개인별로 차별화된 훈련 방식과 더 우수한 스포츠 장비와 최적의 신체상태를 유지시켜 줄 개별화된 프로그램에 접근하도록 서비스를 제공해 줄 수 있는 것임. 인공지능은 스포츠이벤트 조직을 매우 효율적으로 운영되도록 할 것이며, 스포츠방송에 변혁을 불러 일으킬 것이며 관중경험측면에서 보다 더 개별화되고 몰입도가 높도록 향상시켜 줄 것임”(AI can help to identify athletes and talent in every corner of the world. AI can provide more athletes with access to personalised training methods, superior sports equipment and more individualised programmes to stay fit and healthy. Beyond sporting performance, AI can revolutionise judging and refereeing, thereby strengthening fairness in sport. AI can improve safeguarding in sport. AI will make organising sporting events extremely efficient, transform sports broadcasting and make the spectator experience much more individualised and immersive)이라며 올림픽의 중점적인 핵심 방향은 그대로 상존할 것임(the central focus of the Games will remain)을 주장하는 논점을 분명히 하는 견해도 밝혔다고 합니다
기존기술활용을 향상시키고 있는 방향은 이미 실행 중에 있다(Already in play are ways to make existing technology applications better)고 합니다:
(1)Swiss Timing CEO인 Alain Zobrist(스위스)의 견해는 “인공지능이 올림픽 및 패럴림픽에서 OMEGA의 시간계측시스템에 이미 통합과정에 돌입하고 있으며 우리가 경기력에 대해 이전보다 훨씬 더 심층적으로 분석하고 이해하도록 도와주고 있음. 우리는 기술혁신이 데이터 스토리텔링 및 심판판정지원이란 관점에서 어디까지 나아갈 수 잇는지에 대해 흥미롭게 지켜보고 있음”(AI technology is already being integrated into OMEGA’s timekeeping systems at the Olympic and Paralympic Games and allows us to analyse and understand athletic performances much deeper than ever before. We’re excited about where the innovation can go next in terms of data storytelling and judging support)임
(2)NBA올림픽 및 패럴림픽 수석 프로듀서(Executive Producer)인 Molly Solomon(미국)의 견해는 “인공지능은 데이터분석을 통하여 그래픽과 향상된 기능이 장착된 비디오와 개인화된 시스템과생산적인 분석을 부가함으로 우리의 프레젠테이션의 질을 향상시키고 풍요롭게 해 줄 수 있음. 또한 인공지능은 올림픽대회가 제공해 주는 콘텐츠과잉에 대한 길 찾기기능으로 팬들이 선호하는 이벤트 및 선수들을 연결시켜주는 서비스로 참여의 깊이를 더해주고 우리의 플랫폼에 더 많은 시간을 할애하는데 도움을 줄 수 있음.”(AI can enrich our presentation through data analysis, with graphics and enhanced video, personalisation and predictive analysis. It can also help navigate the plethora of content the Olympic Games provide, connecting fans with the events and athletes they love, which will result in deeper engagement and spending more time on our platforms.)임
90분이 소요된 토론에서 인공지능이 관여하고 지원해 줄 수 있는 가능한 8개분야애 대하여 논의하였으며(A 90-minute discussion covered eight areas of possible AI intervention and support) 다 많은 개념 정리와 탐색 작업 실행을 위해 18명의 실무그룹이 이미 결성되었다(an 18-member working group has already been formed to explore more concepts)고 합니다.
하지만 후속 보고나 결과치가 나오는 날짜는 적시되지 않았다(No date was noted for a follow-up report or findings)고 합니다.
