1)사명/임무(Mission)
IOC의 사명(mission of the IOC)은 올림피즘을 증진하고 올림픽운동을 선도하는 것인바 올림픽헌장에 의거하여 행정처의 역할(the roles of the administration 은 다음과 같습니다
(1)IOC총회와 IOC집행위원회 및 IOC위원장의 결정사항에 대한 준비(preparation), 실행(implementation) 및 후속조치(follow-up)
(2)모든 IOC위원회 업무에 대한 준비와 후속조치 (preparation and follow-up of the work of all commissions); 국제연맹, 국가올림픽위원 및 올림픽대회조직위원회와의 항시적인 연락 업무(permanent liaison with the IFs, NOCs and OCOGs);
(3)모든 올림픽대회 및 청소년올림픽대회 준비에 따른 조정 업무(coordination of preparation for all Olympic Games and Youth Olympic Games);
(4)기타 다른 올림픽 이벤트 조직 및 준비 업무(organization and preparation of other Olympic events);
(5)올림픽운동계 정보회람발행(circulation of information within the Olympic Movement);
(6)이해당자들에 대한 자문(advice to Interested Parties);
(7)특히 스포츠와 교육과 문화와 관련된 사안을 다루는 많은 국제적인 정부 및 비정부조직들과의 관계(relations with many international governmental and non-governmental organisations dealing with, in particular, sport, education and culture);
(8)올림픽 솔리다리티와의 연락 및 IOC위원장과 IOC집해위원회가 맡긴 현재 진행중이거나 특정 사안 성격의 임무에 대한 실행(liaison with Olympic Solidarity and implementation of many other tasks of an ongoing or ad hoc nature assigned to it by the President and the Executive Board.)

IOC의 행정 사무처는 위원장의 권한으로 임명된 사무총장의 책임 하에 담당부서 국장들의 도움으로 사무처를 운영하는데 담당부서국장들은 각 해당 부문에 부여된 업무를 처리하는 책임 부서의 장임(The administration of the IOC is placed under the responsibility of the Director General who, under the authority of the President, runs it with the assistance of the directors; the latter are at the head of units responsible for dealing with business in their respective sectors of competence)
