Bach IOC위원장은 25주년을 맞이한 WADA2024연례심포지움 갈라(WADA 2024 Annual Symposium Gala) 영예의 수상자 중 한명이 되었다고 합니다.
이 상은 WADA의 첫 시상식이며 글로벌도핑방지투쟁에 있어서의 노력과 헌신을 인정한다는 취지라고 합니다.
WADA는 개인이나 그룹이나 조직이 글로벌도핑방지를 위해 공헌한 수상대상자를 선발하였는데 Thomas Bach IOC위원장은 제1회 2024년 Play True 상(Awards) 수상자 들 가운데 등재되어(selected as one of the recipients of the inaugural 2024 Play True Awards, which recognise individuals, groups and organisations that have contributed to the fight against doping) 있다고 합니다.
Bach IOC위원장은 25주년을 기념하여 WADA가 주최한 2024년 연례심포지엄 갈라(2024 Annual Symposium Gala)에서 전세계스포츠계를 대신하여 수상하였다고 합니다.
스위스 Lausanne에서 개최된 2024년 연례 심포지엄의 주제는 “하나의 사명으로 뭉친 하나의 팀”(themed “One Mission - One Team”)행사에는 글로벌 도핑방지공동체로부터 1,100명의 대표들이 함께 하였다고 합니다.
WADA 회장인 Witold Bańka 와 사무총장(Director General)인Olivier Niggli 는 그들의 개회사를 통해 목소리 톤을 높였다(set the tome with their opening speeches)고 합니다.

Bańka회장은 WADA의 창설과 발전 및 강화와 깨끗하 스포츠를 위해 특히 견인차 역할을 해온 이해당사자들과 개인들의 헌신을 기리기 위해 제1회 Play True 상(Awards)을 수여함을 집중 조명(highlighted those stakeholders and individuals that the Agency wished to recognise with the inaugural "Play True Awards" who have been particularly instrumental in the creation, development and strengthening of WADA and clean sport)하였다고 합니다.

2일 간 진행된 심포지엄에서 Thomas Bach IOC위원장의 축사를 비롯하여 과학적인 프레젠테이션(scientific presentations)에 참여한 Dr Matt Fedoruk, Dr Tiia Kuuranne 및 Dr Reid Aikin등이 자리를 빛냈다고 합니다
Thomas Bach IOC위원장은 “도핑을 하지 않는 깨끗한 선수 보호가 궁극적인 목표임. 강력한 제재조치와 적극적으로 저지하는 것이 매우 중요함. 하지만 그것 자체가 목표는 아님. 그러한 것들은 깨끗한 선수들을 보호하는데 필수적인 것임. 그러한 것이 핵심임: 깨끗한 선수들이 바로 그것임”("Protecting clean athletes is the ultimate goal. Tough sanctions and strong deterrence are extremely important, but they are not the goal. They are essential to protect clean athletes. That's what it's all about: Clean athletes)이라고 강조했다고 합니다.
WADA주최 Play True Awards첫 해 행사에서 WADA는 뛰어난 기여를 한 많은 개인들에 대하여 영예를 부여하였다(WADA honoured a number of outstanding individuals)고 합니다.
향후 WADA는 Play True 상 프로그램을 신설한다고 하는데 이를 통해 글로벌 도핑방지공동체로 하여금 수상대상자를 지명하여 제출하도록 독려할 것(In the coming years, the Agency will establish a Play True Award programme. The global anti-doping community will be encouraged to submit nominations)이라고 합니다
수상대상자후보지명에 따른 요구사항등은 수개월내에 발송될 것이며(Requirements will be defined and communicated in the coming months) 향후 진행될 WADA심포지엄에서의 특별 세션을 통하여 Play True 상 수상자들을 심사위원들이 선발한 후 이들에 대하여 인증하고 시상할 것(A special session at future WADA Symposia will publicly recognise and honour those selected by a jury as Play True Award winners.)이라고 합니다.
