Tokyo2020올림픽은 전세계를 계속 사로잡아 온 글로벌 건강 위기(global health crisis)로 인해 예정보다 1년 연기된 뒤 개최되었다.
일련의 코로나19대책이 조직위원회에 의해 실행되어 참가선수들이 안전하게 대회를 끝마칠 수는 있었지만. 도쿄에서는 無관중대회(no spectators were permitted at venues in Tokyo)로 실시되었다.
