[파리市長, 프랑스 정치가 올림픽을 그늘지게 한다(French politics clouding Olympics)]

Anne Hidalgo파리시장은 6월 하순으로 다가온 총선에서 프랑스 극우파의 집권 가능성(the possibility of France's far-right coming to power in elections later this month)이 파리올림픽에 대한 프랑스의 준비에 의혹과 염려를 야기하고(causing doubts and concerns as the French capital prepares for the Olympics) 있음을 인정하였다고 합니다.
프랑스 사회당 출신 파리시장으로 2014년부처 집권한 Hildago는 “본인은 프랑스의 상황을 걱정하고 있는 파리사람들과 프랑스사람들 그리고 외국 사람들로부터 많은 질문을 받고 있음”(I receive many, many questions from French people, from Parisians, from people abroad who are worried about the situation in France)이라고 기자들에게 토로하였다고 합니다.
프랑스는 역사적으로 보편적인 인권의 가치를 구현해 왔는데(France has historically embodied the values of universal human rights) “우리나라에서 극우파들이 성공적으로 홍보한 사람들과는 천양지차”(which are very far from those successfully promoted by the far right in our country)라고 덧붙였다고 합니다
프랑스는 Macron대통령이 깜짝 조기총선을 선포함(snap elections called by President Emmanuel Macron to the surprise of many)에 따라 파리올림픽시작 전인 6월30일과 7월 7일 2차례 총성 투표에 들어간다고 합니다.
Marine Le Pen이 이끄는 반 이민(anti-immigration)National Rally 정당은 여론조사에서 현재 우위를 점하고(currently leading in the polls) 있지만 분석가들은 새로운 국회에서의 의석 수를 예측하는 것이 매우 어렵다고 경고하고 있다(analysts warn that it is extremely difficult to predict how many seats it will win in the new National Assembly)고 합니다.
Hidalgo파리시장은 “그렇다. 극우파가 권력 문턱에 와있으며 그들은 증오와 혼란을 가져오고 있음”(Yes, the far right is at the gates of power and it brings with it hatred and chaos)이라고 언급하고 있으며 극우파가 가장 약세인 파리에서 재중들이 성벽(rampart) 역할을 할 것으로 확신하고 있다고 하면서 “본인은 우리의 모든 외국친구들이 프랑스에서 무슨 일이 일어나고 있는지 걱정 어린 질문을 스스로 하고 있다고 이야기 하고 싶음: 오서 보라, 이곳은 민주와 자유의 가치로 계속해서 살고 있는 곳임”(I want to say to all our friends overseas who are asking themselves questions, who are worried about what's happening in France: Come, this is a place that will continue to live by the values of democracy and freedom,)이라고 언급하였다고 합니다.
Hidalgo 시장은 7월26일 개막되는 올림픽 전날 총선을 촉구한 Macron대통령에 대한 만연한 비판에 대하여 공감하면서(echoed widespread criticism of Macron for calling the election on the eve of the Games) “올림픽이 우리 시민들에게 에너지와 신뢰와 희망을 주는 멋진 간주곡이 될 수 있음을 인정함으로 대통령이 프랑스에 약간의 공간과 관심을 줄 수 있지 않겠느냐”(The president could have given the country a bit of space and attention by acknowledging that the Games could be a nice interlude that would give energy, confidence and hope to many of our citizens)고 호소하였다고 합니다.
그녀는 “그것은 Macron대통령의 결정이며 그럴 권리를 가지고 있고 모든 책임을 지게 될 것”(It is his decision, he has the right and he will take the responsibility)이라고 부언하였다고 합니다.
그녀는 Seine 강에서의 계획된 수영 날짜를 새롭게 발표하였는데 그 목적은 Seine강이 올림픽을 준비하는데 충분히 정화 되었다는 것이라고 합니다.
Seine강은 트라이애슬론(triathlon)과 바다 수영 종목(open water swimming event) 경기장으로 지정되었지만 아직도 폭우로 인해 정규적인 수질오염도 검사를 못하고 있는(still regularly fails pollution tests due to heavy rainfall) 상황으로 Hidalgo 시장은 그녀 자신이 총선이 끝난 후인 7월15일 주간에 Seine강을 직접 경험할 것(She would take to the water the week of 15 July, after the elections)이라고 언급하였다고 합니다.
