2020년 12월11일 세계 반 도핑 기구(WADA: World Anti-Doping Agency)는 코로나바이러스(COVID-19)백신 접종이 시작되면서 백신의 함유 성분 분석을 통해 선수들과 이해당사자들에게 WADA금지약물 성분과의 상관관계와 관련한 상세한 정보를 제공할 것임을 밝힌 바 있다.

 

WADA는 선수 및 이해당사자들에게 COVID-19 백신 성분에 대한 정확한 정보제공을 목적으로 ‘SARS-Cov-2’ 백신을 분석할 계획이며, 실험을 통해 COVID-19 백신에서 나타날지도 모르는 금지약물(prohibited substances)에 대한 양성반응이 도출될 경우에 대비하여 각국 해당도핑방지기구(NADA)에 필요한 조치를 취할 것이라고 취지를 밝힌 바 있다.

WADA는 “COVID-19 백신이 도핑방지규정에 위배된다고 생각하지는 않지만, 매우 낮은 확률로 COVID-19 백신이 도핑방지규정에 배치되어 위반될 경우, 후속 관리감독을 통해 도핑 방지 원칙과 충돌하지 않도록 할 것이다.”라고 입장을 표명하였다.

WADA는 백신의 정확한 구성성분을 확인하기 위해 미국 화이자(Pfizer) 등 다양한 제약사 및 제약업계 대표기구인 국제제약협회연맹(IFPMA: International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations)과 MOU를 체결한 바 있으며, COVID-19 백신에 대한 상세정보를 선수 및 이해당사자들에게 제공함으로써 지속적으로 소통할 계획이라고 한다.
