감동적인 평창2018 동계 패럴림픽 개회식이 3월9일  밤 성대하고 화려하게 펼쳐 졌습니다.

 

 

어제 Andrew Parsons IPC위원장의 환영사 소개에 이어 오늘을 이희범 평창2018조직위원회 위원장의 개회사 연설문(한영)내용을 소개해 드립니다.

존경하는 문재인 대통령님 내외분과 대한민국 국민 여러분!

 

Andrew Parsons IPC 위원장을 비롯한 전 세계 패럴림픽 가족 여러분!

 

내외 귀빈 여러분!

각국 선수단 여러분!

 

우리는 지금 2018 평창 패럴림픽 대회 성화를 밝히는 역사적인 자리에 함께하고 있습니다.

 

 

 

이 성화는 저 멀리 패럴림픽의 발상지인 영국 Stoke Mandeville과 전국 주요 도시에서 채화된 성화를 모아 800여명의 주자들이 2018km를 달려 온 희망의 불빛입니다.

 

패럴림픽은 1948년 런던올림픽에서 2차 대전 후 상이군인들이 주축이 되어 치유의 스포츠제전으로 시작되었으나 올림픽과 동등한 반열에서 같은 장소, 같은 시기

에 개최한 것은 서울1988패럴림픽이 처음이었습니다.

 

 

 

대한민국은 이제 정치, 경제, 사회, 문화 등 모든 면에서 한 단계 더 성숙한 가운데 여러분들을 맞이하고 있습니다.

 

모든 사람은 동등합니다.

장애인도 스포츠뿐만 아니라 사회전반에 걸쳐 함께 참여할 수 있다는 인식도 보편화 되었습니다. 장애인 스포츠 인구도 폭발적으로 늘어났습니다.

 

 

패럴림픽 선수단 여러분!

 

 

우사인 볼트는 선천적 척추 측만 증을 넘은 육상영웅 우사인 볼트,

천제 물리학자 스티븐 호킹박사,

3중 장애를 극복한 헬렌 켈러,

국기대표 수영선수인 로봇다리 김세진,

한국최초이 장애인 의사 황연대,

장애인 인권 운동가 박은수 변호사,

이 같이 신체적인 장애를 극복하고 인간승리를 이룬 표상은 무한합니다

 

 

선수 여러분들이 평창에 오기까지 쏟은 땀과 눈물을 우리는 알고 있습니다. 평창의 무대에 오르신 여러분들은 이미 승리자이고 영웅입니다.

 

‘용기, 투지, 감화, 평등’의 패럴림픽 정신을 이곳 평창에서 마음껏 펼쳐 나가시기 바랍니다.

 

전 세계 패럴림픽 가족 여러분!

 

2018 평창 패럴림픽 대회는 사상최대규모의 선수단이 참가하고 있으며 전 세계와 함께하는 지구촌 최대의 패럴림픽 겨울 축제입니다.

 

이번 평창 패럴림픽이 평화와 화합, 감동과 환희를 넘어 차별과 편견이 없는 따뜻한 사회를 만드는 초석이 되길 기대합니다.

 

아울러 평창의 축제는 한반도를 넘어 동북아, 그리고 평화를 갈망하는 전 세계 모든 사람들에게 희망의 불빛이 될 것입니다.

 

이번 대회에 첫 발을 딛는 조지아, 타지키스탄, 그리고, 특히 북한 선수들을 뜨겁게 환영합니다.

[POCOG President’s Paralympic Winter Games Opening Ceremonies Speech (9 March)/English Version]

 

President Moon Jae-In and his First Lady of the Republic of Korea, and dear Korean people,

 

IPC President Andrew Parsons and the entire global Paralympic Family members,

 

Distinguished Guests at home and abroad, 

 

All participating Para athletes and NPC delegations,

 

Ladies and Gentlemen,

 

 

Tonight we have gathered together here at this historic place to light the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Flame.

 

 

This Paralympic Heritage Flame was ignited from afar at Stoke Mandeville, the birthplace of the Paralympic Movement with the Flames lit together at nation-wide major local cities in Korea. This is a “Light of Hope” carried by 800 Torch Bearers having covered 2,018 km-long journey.

 

 

 

The Paralympic Games was initiated by disabled war veterans following the World War II for the purpose of their own physical rehabilitation and mental healing as a priority. However, it was not until Seoul 1988 Paralympic Games that the Games began to be staged on an equal level at the same place and the same period as the Olympic Games for the first time in history.

 

 

The Republic of Korea is now welcoming you with its upgraded and matured status in all levels such

as political, economic, social, and cultural aspects.

 

Everyone is equal.

 

 

 

Nowadays the world is indeed embracing people with impairment on an equal basis not only in sport, but also all other social sectors as a whole. Sporting population mostly inclusive of people with impairment has exploded by leaps and bounds in recent years.

 

 

 

Dear Respective Paralympic Delegations,

Together we have seen and witnessed countless symbolic manifestations that have showcased human victory overcoming physical challenges, including but not limited to:

 

-Usain Bolt, having overcome and turned his congenital scoliosis into “Athletics Hero”, better kn

own as “Lightning Bolt”,

 

-Stephen Hawking, having overcome and turned his ‘Lou Gehrig’ disorder into a “Genius British Physicist”

 

-Helen Keller, having overcome and turned her tripled physical disabilities into a world renowned social activist,

 

-KIM, Se-jin, having overcome his physical disability and become a popular Korean National Swimmer, also known as “Robot Legs”,

 

-Madam HWANG, Yeon-dae, having overcome her physical disability and become a renowned first Korean medical doctor,

 

-Lawyer PARK, Eun-soo, having also overcome his physical challenges and become a famous Korean Human Rights Activist,

 

Having recognized how much you, Para athletes, have sweated and shed tears coming all the way to PyeongChang, we all know that everyone of you is already “Champion as well as Hero”.

 

It is my ardent wish that PyeongChang2018 will be truly blessed with you in a Paralympic Spirit of ‘Courage, Determination, Inspiration, and Equality’.

 

 

Dear global Paralympic Family members !

 

PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Games are participated by the biggest-ever number of delegations, and the Games are known as the greatest global Paralympic Winter Festival.

 

At the same time, it is my sincere hope and expectations that PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Games will serve the purpose of a cornerstone to create a caring-and-sharing society without discrimination and prejudice well beyond the values of peace and harmony, inspiration and jubilation.

 

In addition, the Festival of PyeongChang 2018 will shed “Light of Hope” on the future of all people across the world, yearning for peace beyond Korean Peninsula and North East Asia.

 

 

In particular, my warm welcome is for Georgia, Tajikistan, and DPR Korea who took their great first step in this Paralympic Games.

 

 

Finally, may I take this opportunity to ask you, Para athletes, to fully demonstrate your performances in the competitions, and to enjoy the beauty of PyeongChang during your stay.
