김연아, 최다득표로 "미국스포츠 아카데미상" 거뭐지다. 자랑스럽다!njzjzg

미국 알라바마주 다핀(Daphne, Alabama)에 위치한 미국 스포츠아카데미(USSA:United States Sports Academy) Thomas P. Rosandich 총장 겸 이사장이 김연아가 2010년도 미국스포츠아카데미 올해의 여자선수로 선정되었다고 필자에게 알려왔다.
시상식 참가 초청장도 함께 보내왔다.

Thomas P. Rosandich 총장은 1988년 당시 서울올림픽 기간 중 개최국 NOC위원장인 김종하 KOC위원장이 USSA 이글 공로상(Eagel Award)수상자로 결정되어 알라바마 주 다핀소재 USSA본부를 함께 수행 방문하면서부터 알게된 지인이다.

Rosandich총장이 김연아선수에게 보낸 통지문에 의하면 김연아선수의 수상은 USSA 이사회(Board of Trustees), USSA 스포츠 상훈위원회, USSA 연합단체들, USA Today, NBC Sports등이 함께  "2010년 올해의 여자선수"(2010 Female Athlete of the Year)로서 선정하였다고 한다.
김연아선수에 대하여 2010년 밴쿠버 동계올림픽 여자피겨종목에서 전인미답의 경지인 200점 고지를 선점하면서 사상최고의 점수로 올림픽금메달을 획득한 경이로운 선수라고 극찬하였다.

김연아선수의 탁월한 피겨연기력은 전 세계 대상 선정투표결과에 고스란히 반영되었으며 USSA역사상 수상자 투표에 있어서 남녀를 불문하고 어느 한 선수가 이처럼 수상선정투표를 싹슬이 할 정도로 독점한 전례가 없었단다.
시상선정 투표 첫 날부터 마지막 날까지 시종일관 투표순위 1위를 달려왔던 당사자가 바로 김연아란다.
김연아가 받게될 USSA 스포츠아카데미 상 명칭은 "Order of the Eagle Exemplar with Rosette"(장미꼴 문형의 독수리 훈장)이다.  
제26차 연례 아카데미 스포츠 상 시상식은 미국 현지시간 1월7일(금) 15:15-16:00 USSA본부에서 거행된다.
김연아와 함께 선정된 "2010년 올해의 남자선수"로는 2010년 FIFA월드컵에서 조국에 FIFA월드컵 우승컵을 헌납한 스페인 축구스타 David Villa가 선정되었다.
그는 32골을 성공시켰으며 세계테니스 랭킹 1위인 Rafael Nadal을 선정투표에서 제쳤다고 한다.
Nadal은 2010년에만  French Open 다섯 차례, Wimbledon 두 차례, U.S. Open 한 차례를 석권한 남자 테니스 세계 랭킹 1위다.
24세인 그는 2009년 호주 오픈대회를 석권함으로써 최연소 그랜드 슬램을 달성하기도 하였단다.

I am writing on behalf of the Board of Trustees of the United States Sports Academy, the Academy’s Awards of Sport Committee, the Academy, and the Academy’s associates, USA Today and NBC Sports, to congratulate you on being selected as the 2010 Female Athlete of the Year.

 

Kim, you were spectacular in winning your gold medal for figure skating during the Vancouver Winter Olympiad where you scored an unprecedented 200 points in the process.

 

Your performance was reflected in the worldwide vote that you received. Never in the history of the Academy’s voting has any one athlete, male or female, dominated the voting as you did. There was never a question from the first day to the end of the balloting that you would dominate the ballot, and you did exactly that.

 

With this communication, I would like to start the process on where and when we might be able to present you with the “Order of the Eagle Exemplar with Rosette.” The Academy has had a longstanding relationship with South Korea.

 

There are a good number of great sport leaders in Korea, and all have been past recipients of the Academy’s

Awards program, starting with my good friend Chong-Ha Kim, the President of the Korean Olympic Committee during the Seoul Olympiad in 1988. Again, there are a good number of others that can represent the Academy in Korea, should that be convenient.

 

I might mention that at one time we had a dean or chairman at virtually every college and/or university of Korea who were doctoral graduates of the Academy, including the National University of Sport and Physical Education and Olympic Park. Most of them are now retired, but I believe that Dr. Susan Kim is still a senior member of that faculty.

 

I understand that you do train outside of the country, including the U.S., and we do have representatives of the Academy throughout the world, as we have many sport education programs worldwide that help us with the medal presentations.

 

Again, I do offer my personal congratulations on being selected as the 2010 Female Athlete of the Year. No one has ever deserved that medal more than you.
