Bach IOC위원장은 3월20일 IOC집행위원회 종료 후 가진 기자회견에서 Brisbane 2032올림픽 관련 Queensland 주정부가 대회개최경비에 대한 우려로 대회 철회를 심사숙고하고 있다라는 보도의 와중에(amid a report that the Queensland government considered whether to renounce the Games on cost concerns) Brisbane 2032올림픽 논란에 대한 질문을 받고(asked about the controversies in Brisbane for the 2032 Games)다음과 같이 답변하였다고 합니다.
1)“이것은 단순히 추측 성 기사임; 실제로 움직이는 조직위원회 등 당사자들의 어떠한 대화나 계획 추진 사항 발언에서 그들은 그와 같은 언급이 없음을 명백히 하였음. 따라서 이러한 이야기는 분명히 가짜뉴스아류 임”(This is mere speculation; all the actors have made it very clear there was no mention of this in any of the conversations or planning they had, so this was some kind of fake news apparently.)
Bach IOC위원장은 혹 IOC가 올림픽을 대비하여 새로운 대형스타디움을 건축하지 않겠다는 결정에 대하여 우려하고 있는지 여부에 대한 질문을 받았으며(further asked whether the IOC was concerned over the decision not to build a large new stadium for the Games) 그는 올림픽운동사에 새롭게 도입된 주요 개혁 내용에 대한 일관된 입장을 펼치며 다음과 같이 대응하였다(reacted consistently with his position that has been a major reform he has introduced to the Olympic Movement)고 합니다:
2)“여러분이 알고 있는 Brisbane 2032올림픽 후보와 관련하여 인용할 뿐인데 그들은 새로운 스타디움이나 새로운 경기장 신축에 대하여 언급한 바 없음. 그리고 이것이 우리의 입장이며 올림픽 어젠더 2020에 입각하여 가능한 최대한 기존 경기장을 활용할 것을 우리는 바라고 있음. 만일 그것이 여의치 않을 경우 임시 시설을 발굴할 것이며 내가 이해하기로는 이틀간의 논의 결과 독자적인 검토 후 모종의 시나리오가 논의 중이라는 것임”(I can only refer, you know, to the candidature of Brisbane, where it was said that no new stadium or venue would be built for the Games. And this is our position, that we want to have Games being in line with Olympic Agenda 2020, and that means making use of existing venues as far as possible, and if not, looking for temporary facilities, and I understand from two days’ discussion that there are some scenarios being discussed now after this independent review. …)

같은 질문이 연이어 나오자 이번에는 IOC올림픽수석국장인 Christophe Dubi(스위스)이 상세히 답변하였다고 합니다:
1)“우리는 이 시점에서 우리가 이야기한 것, 즉 개최국 공동체가 약속을 이행하고자 하는 것에 일관성있음을 자랑스럽게 여겨야 함. 그리고 올림픽대회가 현지 조건에 부합되도록 조율되어 가는 이러한 기조를 유지하는 것이 매우 중요함. 이 경우 또한 기존 또는 임시 경기장들을 최대한 활용하게 되는 케이스임.”(We should all take pride in being consistent in what we have said at the time, which are Games that do deliver the goods for the host community. And it’s very important to maintain this line that we said the Games would adapt to the local conditions. It was also the case that maximum use of existing or temporary venues would be made.)
2)“물론, 이 경우에서 우리로서는 최종적으로 사용될 경기장과 관련한 가치판단은 할 수 없음. 위원장님, 지금 떠오르고 있고 Brisbane경기장 검토 보고에 따른 핵심이기도 한 여러가지 다른 시나리오가 실존하고 있는데 그 중 하나가 Victoria주 새로운 구역에 새로운 스타디움 신축 아이디어임. 하지만 우리는 기존 시설에 대한 보수 공사에 무게를 두는 쪽을 선호한다고 이해하고 있음” (Of course, in this we have no judgement of value with respect to the final venue that will be used. And we have received full assurance that it would be the case. …)
5)“규모는 중요치 않음, 정말 중요한 것은 레거시(遺産)와 해당 공동체의 선택을 고려하는 것임. IOC와 국제연맹에 관한 한 우리는 더 이상 최소한의 표준이라는 기준을 제시하지 않고 있음. 그리고 그렇게 많은 도시들이 향후 올림픽개최에 관심을 갖게 된 것도 거대한 경기장을 건설할 필요가 없기 때문에 그런 것이 아닐까 생각하고 있음. 사이즈나 규모가 어떻든 기존 또는 임시 경기장으로 우리는 적응해 나갈 것임”(The size does not matter. What really is important is to consider the legacy, the choice of the given community. As far as the IOC and the federations we do adapt, we don’t have minimum standards any more. And that’s probably also why so many cities are interested for the future because they know they don’t have to build huge venues. Existing or temporary, whatever the size, we will adapt.)
