[JPMorgan Chase, IOC TOP 파트너 합류 (JPMorgan Chase becomes IOC TOP sponsor)]

(The new high-profile arrival, revealed this week by the Financial Times, is expected to join the International Olympic Committee's programme ahead of Los Angeles 2028, highlighting the continued appeal of sport to the world's largest corporations)

(Toyota's chairman, Akio Toyoda, openly criticised the IOC in a podcast, arguing that the organisation was becoming 'increasingly politicised'. Toyota's exit proved one of the most widely discussed departures. Panasonic, another Japanese industrial heavyweight and the IOC's third-longest-standing partner, having begun its collaboration in 1987, surpassed only by Coca-Cola and Visa by a single year, also announced its withdrawal around eighteen months ago. Panasonic adopted a more discreet tone, citing 'management considerations' for its decision)

1)JPMorgan은 Airbnb, Alibaba, 삼성, 비자, 코카콜라, Deloitte, Omega, Procter & Gamble, TCL 등과 함께 IOC TOP 파트너 그룹에 합류(JPMorgan would join AB InBev, Airbnb, Alibaba, Allianz, Coca-Cola, Deloitte, Omega, Procter & Gamble, Samsung, Visa and the Chinese electronics manufacturer TCL within the program).

2) Kirsty Coventry IOC

JPMorgan Chase becomes IOC TOP sponsor

The new high-profile arrival, revealed this week by the Financial Times, is expected to join the International Olympic Committee's programme ahead of Los Angeles 2028, highlighting the continued appeal of sport to the world's largest corporations.

With origins dating back to 1799, operations in more than 100 countries and trillions of dollars under management, JPMorgan Chase & Co stands as the largest banking and financial services institution in the United States and one of the most powerful globally. Headquartered in New York, it operates as a financial holding company offering investment banking, commercial banking, asset management and consumer services under the JPMorgan and Chase brands.

According to three individuals familiar with the matter cited by the specialised British outlet, the American banking giant is close to finalising an agreement to join the select group of corporate partners of the International Olympic Committee.

Its arrival would represent a significant boost for the IOC and President, Kirsty Coventry, who was elected last year to succeed Thomas Bach. The development follows the departure of major names such as Intel, Toyota and Panasonic after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

In her manifesto, the Zimbabwean stressed the need for adaptation as audiences migrate from traditional television towards digital platforms and streaming services, as she pledged to work closely with broadcast rights holders to ensure that the Olympic brand retains its relevance in a rapidly shifting media landscape.

The Olympic Partners programme, commonly known as TOP, represents the most prestigious tier of sponsorship within the Movement. Introduced by the body 41 years ago, in 1985, it marked the dawn of a new era in sports marketing, as multinational sponsors flocked to associate themselves with the five rings.

In recent years, however, TOP has faced mounting pressure following sponsor withdrawals. Revenues reportedly reached $560 million (€477m) last year, the lowest figure since 2020.

Indeed, as previously reported by Inside The Games in late 2024, Toyota's chairman, Akio Toyoda, openly criticised the IOC in a podcast, arguing that the organisation was becoming 'increasingly politicised'. Panasonic adopted a more discreet tone, citing 'management considerations' for its decision.

Bridgestone subsequently followed suit, announcing its departure on 1 October 2024. According to Olympics.com, the designation 'The Olympic Partner' describes "a unique funding model establishing long-term commercial partnerships that benefit the entire Olympic Movement". In essence, the IOC's financial architecture rests on three principal pillars: broadcasting rights, strategic partnerships and, crucially, sponsorship agreements, particularly those within the TOP framework. It is estimated that $3.000m (€2.580m) was generated during the cycle encompassing the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and the Paris 2024 Summer Games.

Should the agreement be concluded, JPMorgan would join AB InBev, Airbnb, Alibaba, Allianz, Coca-Cola, Deloitte, Omega, Procter & Gamble, Samsung, Visa and the Chinese electronics manufacturer TCL within the programme. Such agreements can be worth tens of millions of dollars annually. In 2019, Airbnb signed a deal valued at $500m (€430m) to sponsor the Olympic Games through to 2028.

Sources cited by the Financial Times indicate that the JPMorgan agreement would commence prior to the next Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.

The sponsorship would represent the bank's latest major foray into sport, complementing an existing portfolio that includes the US Open, one of tennis's four Grand Slam tournaments, and the England national football teams via its retail banking arm, Chase. Since February 2024, the bank also served as principal partner and naming-rights sponsor of the stadium of Lionel Messi's club, Inter Miami CF, in Fort Lauderdale, now known as Chase Stadium, among others.

Weeks ago, JPMorgan launched its Athlete Council, led by NFL legend Tom Brady, focused on wealth management services for professional athletes, further evidence that its engagement with sport is neither symbolic nor fleeting, but strategic and long-term.
