1월17일 자 외신에 따르면 Tokyo2020은 올림픽 및 페럴림픽 마스코트 선정 작업의 일환으로 계획 입안(to draw up plans to select mascot)에 착수하였다고 합니다

Tokyo2020 올림픽 및 패럴림픽 마스코트 선정위원회는 1월17일 첫 모임을 갖고 일반 대중도 선정과정에 참여하도록 하는 방안마련을 겨냥한 패널을 구성하는 것으로 알려졌습니다.

 

마스코트 선정위원회는 일본 문화청장(Japan’s Commissioner for Cultural Affairs)인 Ryohei Miyata가 위원장 직을 맡아 진행하고 있다고 합니다

 

Tokyo2020조직위원회 관계자들은 동 패널에는 마스코트 캐릭터 개발 전문가들 역시 포함되어 있다고 주장하고 있다고 합니다.

 

동 마스코트 참가신청작품 경쟁 참가자격 표준(eligibility criteria)은 마스코트 선정위원회에서 선정과정 세부일정과 더불어 마련할 것으로 알려졌습니다.

 

마스코트 선정위원회는 마스코트의 정체성(the identity of the mascot)결정에 앞서 참가신청작품들 중 선정방법 등에 대한 업무도 더불어 담당할 것으로 알려졌습니다.

 

향후 열리는 회의에서는 참가신청과정 및 대중과의 참여/소통방법(the application process and engagement with the public)에 대하여 집중 논의할 것이라고 Tokyo2020조직위원회가 밝힌 바 있습니다.

Option A였던 확정 로고는 “조화된 바둑판 문양 엠블렘(a "harmonized chequered emblem")으로 표현되었는데 일본에서 바둑판문양(the chequered pattern)은 Edo 막부 시대에  “ichimatsu moyo”(いちまつもよう<市松模様>/네모진 흑백 무늬를 번갈아 늘어놓은 바둑판 무늬)로 공식적으로 알려지게 되었으며 로고 문양은 일본전통색상인 남색(indigo bleu)으로 구성되어 있습니다

 

최종 확정된 Option A 디자인은 일본이 모범으로 내 세우는 “세련된 우아함과 지적 교양”(a refined elegance and sophistication)을 표현하고 있다는 설명입니다.

 

사각형 모양의 3가지 변화된 형태로 이루어진 디자인은 각각 다른 나라들과 문화들과 사고방식의 다양성을 대표하고자(represent different countries, cultures and ways of thinking) 하는 의도로 보여진다는 설명입니다

 

또한 “다양성 안에 내재된 통합성”(unity in diversity)을 포괄적으로 결합함으로 올림픽과 패럴림픽이 세계를 연결하여 아우르는 다양성을 추구하는 것을 보여주는 것이라고 조직위원회가 주장한 바 있었고 결국 Option A디자인이 최종 간택된 것입니다.

 

4월25일 도쿄 Totanomon Hills Mori Tower에서 거행된 Tokyo2020대체로고 발표 식에는 Yoshiro Mori Tokyo2020조직위원장외에 John Coates IOC조정위원장 및 Alex Gilady IOC조정위원회 부위원장 겸 이스라엘 IOC위원도 함께 참석한 바 있습니다

1)  "The new Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 emblem symbolizes important elements of the Tokyo 2020 Games vision and the underlying concepts of achieving personal best, unity in diversity and connecting to tomorrow."

2)  "I congratulate the Tokyo 2020 team for the inclusive process that led to this selection.”

3)  "The public engagement in the selection process is another sign of growing interest in the 2020 Games.”

4)  "Interest and excitement will continue to build, in Japan and globally, after the official handoff to Tokyo 2020 at the close of the upcoming Olympic Games Rio 2016.”

5)  "The Tokyo 2020 emblem will become a familiar symbol to people around the world."

 

 

 

말 많고 탈 많았던 Tokyo2020공식대체로고 최종선정을 위한 ‘Tokyo 2020 Emblems Selectioon Committee’위원장인 Ryohei Miyata의 코멘트내용입니다:

 

1)  "Since September last year, it has been a great honour and privilege to chair the Tokyo 2020 Emblems Selection Committee, and to work with my fellow committee members."

2)  "I am extremely grateful to all members of the committee for their outstanding efforts over the past seven months.”

3)  "From today, these emblems will serve as the face of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

4)  "I very much hope that the emblems will prove popular with people everywhere, and we look forward to your continued support towards the Tokyo 2020 Games.”

 

대체확정로고 디자이너는 Asao Tokola인데 그는 Tokyo Zokai 대학 출신 건축학 전공자라고 합니다.

확정된 대체공식로고에 대한 반응 또한 호의적이지만은 않은 것 같습니다.

 

어떤 사안이거나 상반된 평가의견(divided opinion)이 있기 마련인데 부정적인 댓글에는 “terrible”이란 표현과 ‘ugly”란 표현도 등장한다고 합니다.

 

1)  “The first one was terribly ugly. These new ones are very terribly ugly. I think the Olympic Movement does not deserve something so dark... sport is colour and life,” commenter Jorge Luiz wrote.

2) Commenter leonardo2001 added: “Man they were all bad in the first place. Very surprising because Japan has incredible history of graphic design.”

 

긍정적인 댓글에는 “단순하며 이해하기 용이하다”와 “단색사용으로 처리된 디자인이라서 로고에 주는 힘과 강렬함이 느껴진다”는 평가도 눈에 뜨인다고 합니다.
