1월20일 자 IOC 첫 뉴스 기사 제목은 “북남올림픽참가 회의: IOC가 다리를 놓기 위해 로잔느에서 회담을 시작하다”(“North and South Korean Olympic Participation Meeting”: IOC begins talks in Lausanne to “build bridges”)였습니다

 

평창2018대회조직위원회와 남북한 NOC대표단은 각각의 위원장들을 필두로, 양측 정부고위 당국자들(high-ranking government officials)과 양측 IOC위원들이 참석한 가운데 스위스 로잔느 IOC본부에서 4자회단(a four-party meeting)을 진행하고 있음

IOC는 Thomas Bach IOC위원장이 주재하는 회의를 진행하였으며 회의 안건은 북한 NOC 선수들의 평창2018 참가에 대한 사항들과 대한민국 NOC대표단과는 잠재적 공동활동에 대한 사항(potential joint activities with the delegation of the NOC of the Republic of Korea (ROK)을 결정하기 위한 것이라고 표현하였습니다

 

모든 참가관련 마감일이 이미 경과한 시점에서(since all the deadlines for registration have already passed) 일련의 필수적인 사항들이 회의 동안 결정될 것인 바 북한 NOC로부터 선수 및 임원 규모와 명단이 포함되어 있다고 한 바 있습니다

IOC는 공식의전(깃발, 국가, 의식행사, 유니폼 등)관련 문제들(questions)을 포함한 북측참가에 대한 포맷에 대하여서도 결정할 것이라고 한 바 있었습니다

 

 

IOC위원장은 회의가 끝나면 올림픽박물관으로 자리를 옮겨 성명서를 발표할 것이라고 사전 고지한 바 있습니다.

Welcome to the International Olympic Committee. (IOC방문을 환영함)

 

Thank you for joining us here today for this important meeting about the participation of the NOC of the DPRK at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 and potential joint activities with the NOC of ROK. (평창2018에 북한 NOC 참가 및 남북NOC와 함께 잠재적 공동활동과 관련하여 이같이 중요한 회의를 위해 오늘 이곳에 우리와 합류한데 대한 감사표명)

 

Today is the result of a process that has been ongoing for a long time. (오늘은 오랫동안 진행되어 온 과정의 결과임)

 

As you know from the popular Korean folk song Arirang, it is a long journey across the cold mountains. (한국 인기민속노래인 아리랑에서 여러분이 아는 바와 같이 추운 산들을 넘어 온 긴 여정임)

 

Perhaps we can inspire a modern interpretation of the song today, so that the next generations may sing about the snow-covered mountains of PyeongChang, where flowers bloom even in the middle of winter. (아마도 오늘날 이 노래가 현대적인 해석을 통해 감명을 줄 수 있으며 이 노래 해석을 통하여 다음 세대들이 한 겨울에 조차 꽃이 피어나는

평창의 눈 덮인 산들에 대해 노래할지도 모름)

 

Over the last several years, in fact since 2014, the IOC has addressed the special situation of having the Olympic Winter Games 2018 on the Korean peninsula. (지난 7년에 걸쳐, 사실상 2014년이래, IOC는 한반도에서 2018년 동계올림픽이 개최되는 특별한 상황에 대해 언급해 온 바 있음)

 

We have always done so with our belief that the Olympic Games are beyond all political tensions. (우리는 올림픽은 모든 정치적 긴장상태를 뛰어 넘는다는 믿음을 견지해 오면서 늘 그렇게 언급해 왔음)

 

In Olympic sport, we are all equal, regardless of where we come from or who we are: North and South, East and West, women and men, rivals and friends. (올림픽스포츠에 관한한, 우리는 어디에서 왔든, 우리가 누구든, 남과 북, 동과 서, 여와 남, 경쟁자들과 친구들 모두 평등함)

 

To address this sometimes fast-changing political situation in a holistic and comprehensive way, the IOC has, since 2014, met separately with each of you. (전체적이면서 포괄적인 방식으로 이처럼 때때로 급변하는 정치적 상황에 대해 언급하면서 IOC는 2014년 이래 양측관계자들을 별도로 만나 왔음)

 

Today is a great moment for the Olympic Movement, because the Olympic spirit has brought us all together. (오늘은 올림픽운동에 있어서 중요한 순간인데 그 이유는 올림픽정신이 우리모두를 한 군데 모이도록 해 주었기 때문임)

 

The Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 have opened the door for peaceful dialogue on the Korean peninsula. (평창2018동계올림픽은 한반도에서 평화적인 대화를 하도록 그 문을 열어 주었음)

 

Our meeting today shows that Olympic sport always builds bridges. (오늘 우리의 회담은 올림픽스포츠가 항상 다리를 놓아주고 있다는 사실을 보여주는 것임)

 

It never erects walls. The Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 give everyone a real opportunity for a new beginning, to open the doors for a brighter future. (올림픽스포츠는 결코 벽을 세우지 않음. 평창2018동계올림픽은 모든 이에게 더 밝은 미래를 위하여 문을 열어 주기 위한 현실적인 기회를 제공해 주고 있는 것임)

 

We still have a long way to go on our journey, but today we are taking one more significant step together. (우리는 아직 우리가 가야할 기나긴 여정이 남아 있지만, 오늘 우리는 모두 함께 중차대한 한 걸음 더 나아가고 있는 것임)

 

In this Olympic spirit of respect and understanding, I am confident that we can achieve positive results in our discussions today. (존중과 이해라는 이러한 올림픽 정신과 함께 우리는 오늘 논의를 통하여 긍정적인 결과를 도출할 수 있다고 확신하는 바임)
