1)  Kim's visit marked the first time any member of North Korea's ruling family had visited the South since the Korean War which ended in 1953 and warmly shook the hand of Moon during a politically-charged spectacle. (북한통치 가문 가족일원의 1953년 한국전쟁 휴전이래 사상 첫 남한 방문-정치적으로 점철된 광경동안 따뜻한 악수 교환)

  

2)  There was no such greeting between Kim and United States Vice-President Mike Pence, whose comments regarding sanctions on the North earlier this week prompted the country to threaten to withdraw from Pyeongchang 2018. (김여정과 Mike Spence 미국부통령과는 인사가 없었음)

6)  Moon later officially declared the first Winter Olympic Games to be held in South Korea open. (문재인 대통령 평창2018 대회 개회 선언함)

 

7)  It came after athletes from North and South Korea, who are still technically at war, marched under the unification flag to bring the athletes' parade to a close. (기술적으로 아직 전쟁상태인 남북한 선수단이 한반도 기를 앞 세우고 개회식에서 공동입장 후 개회선언이 이루어짐)

10) They were met with a warm reception from the crowd, in contrast to the cold response given to the Olympic Athletes from Russia (OAR) team, competing as neutrals after the IOC ruled they had committed a "systematic manipulation" of the anti-doping system at Sochi 2014. 다음은 Bach IOC위원장의 환영사 연설문 일부입니다:

 

 

A.  "You can only really enjoy your Olympic performance if you respect the rules and stay clean." (규칙을 준수하고 정직하게 경기에 임할 때 진정으로 올림픽경기를 즐길 수 있음)

 

B.  "While you compete with each other, you live peacefully together in the Olympic Village, respecting the same rules, sharing your meals and your emotions with your fellow athletes. (서로 경기시합에 임하는 동안 같은 규칙을 존중하고 식사도 함께 나누며 동료선수들 간에 정서도 교류하면서 올림픽선수촌에서 평화롭게 함께 거주하는 것임)

 

C.  "This is how you show that in sport we are all equal. (이것 이야말로 스포츠에서 여러분 모두가 평등하다는 것을 보여 주는 방식임)

 

D.  "This is how you show the unique power of sport to unite people. (이것 이야말로 스포츠가 사람들을 결속시켜주는 독특한 힘이 있다는 것을 보여주는 방식임)

 

E.  "A great example of this unifying power is the joint march here tonight of the two teams from the National Olympic Committees of the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. (이 같은 결속력을 보여주는 위대한 사례가 바로 대한민국과 조선민주주의인민공화국 NOC의 두 개 팀들이 오늘 이 밤 공동입장 하는 것임)

 

F.   "We thank you." (그러한 여러분께 우리는 감사함을 표하는 바임)

 

이희범 POCOG위원장 역시 남북한선수단의 공동입장에 대하여 다음과 같이 찬사를 표명(paid tribute)하였습니다:

 

A.  "The entire world watched and witnessed another historic joint marching of the South and North Korean athletes under the Korean Peninsula flag." (전 세계는 한반도기를 앞세우고 남북한 선수들이 또 하나의 역사적인 올림픽개회식 공동입장을 지켜 보았으며 증거하였음)

 

B.  "It means two Koreas became one unified Korea through the Olympic Games. (이것은 남북한 양국이 올림픽을 통하여 하나의 통일된 코리아가 되었다는 것을 의미함)

 

C.  "Sport has a great power to unite people and bring together the world in harmony and peace transcending disputes and conflicts. (스포츠는 사람들을 결속시키고 분쟁과 갈등을 넘어서서 세계를 화합과 평화의 기운으로 한 데 모으는 위대한 힘을 지니고 있음)

 

D.  "The Pyeongchang Games, I am confident, will provide a light of hope for all global citizens yearning for peace on this planet." (나는 평창대회가 지구상에서 평화를 갈구하는 모든 지구촌 사람들에게 희만의 빛을 선사하리라 확신하고 있음)

 

 

13) The OAR team entered the Ceremony having suffered a blow this morning, when the Court of Arbitration for Sport dismissed the appeals of 45 athletes who were hoping to be cleared to compete here. (러시아 출신 선수로 구성된 팀은 스포츠중재재판소가 평창2018출전을 위해 면죄부를 받기를 희망하는 45명 선수들의 항소를 기각한 당일 아침 충격을 받고 개회식에 입장하였음)

14) Tonga's flagbearer Pita Taufatofua marching topless for the second consecutive Olympic Games Opening Ceremony provided a light-hearted moment among all the diplomacy and politics. (통가선수단의 기수인 Pita Taufatofua선수가 올림픽개회식에 두 번 연속 상의를 탈의한 복장으로 입장함으로 모든 외교와 정치가 난무하는 가운데 쾌활한 순간을 선사하였음)

 

15) The oiled-up Taufatofua, due to compete in cross-country skiing, entered the arena in a similar manner to the Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 despite the freezing temperature. (추운 날씨에도 불구하고 상체를 벗고 기름을 바른 Pita Taufatofua선수는 평창2018에서 크로스컨트리 스키선수로 변모하여 출전하는데 지난 Rio2016하계올림픽에서는 태권도 선수로 출전하면서 유사한 방식으로 상체 탈의 복장으로 개회식에 입장한 바 있었음)

 

16) The Ceremony was packed full of Korean culture and included a performance of John Lennon's Imagine, sung by rock star Jeon In-kwon and singer-song writer Lee Eun-mi, various K-pop hits and a crescendo of fireworks to end the evening.
