1)미국 국가대표선수들이 North Carolina로의 이동(Olympic shift away from Colorado Spring to North Carolina)움직임으로 자칭 “미국의 올림픽 市”(Olympic City USA)로 자체 마케팅에 피치를 가해 왔던 미국 Colorado주 Colorado Springs의 노력이 이제 옛 이야기가 될 판 임. 2월14일 Colorado Springs의 KRD013(ABC TV지부/affiliate)보도에 따르면 헤드라인 스토리로 “올림픽 시 정체성 위기”(Olympic City Identity Crisis)란 제하에 미국국가대표팀들이 Colorado Springs를 떠나 North Carolina로 이동한다고 보도함. Colorado Springs 미국국가대표선수촌 훈련센터(the Springs-based Olympic and Paralympic Training Center)는 이제 올림픽유망주 일부를 수용하여 유지하게 됨으로 미국국가대표선수들이 떠난 “유령도시”(ghost town)로 전락하게 될 처지라고 함
2)전임 국제 바이애슬론 연맹(IBU)회장인 노르웨이 출신 Anders Besseberg(77세)는 부패 관련 재판(corruption trial_을 치러 왔음. 3년 6개월 징역형(3 1/2 years in prison)과 NOK1백만 크로네 벌금(a fine of NOK 1,000,000)및 과도한 선물 반환(return of excessive gifts)이 노르웨이 검찰이 요구함으로 일단락 되었다고 함. 당사자인 Besseberg는 선물 수수 몇 건으로 자신이 부패한 것을 의미하지 않는다(taking a few gifts does not mean he was corrupted)고 언급하였다 함.
3)캐나다 빙상연맹은 Valieva의 도핑 혐의에도 불구하고 Beijing2022동계올림픽 여자 피겨 단체전 경기결과를 러시아가 그대로 동메달을 유지한다는 ISU의 결정에 불복하여 스포츠중재재판소에 항소하였음(International Skating Union decision to place Russia third in the 2022 Olympic Winter Games figure skating Team Event to the Court of Arbitration for Sport) 일각에서는 놀랄 일이 아니라고(No surprise whatsoever)하면서 ISU가 내부규정을 따르지 않은 것처럼 보인다(as it appears that the ISU did not follow its own rules)고 지적함
4)베테랑 IOC위원인 스위스의 Denis Oswald는 IOC의 러시아 및 벨라루스에 대한 규칙은 상황 논리에 맞는 정확한 대응책(IOC’s rules on Russian and Belarus are a correct response to the situation)이며 이에 따라 러시아의 평상시 대표단 규모의 일부에 불과한 50~60명 정도의 러시아인들이 Paris2024에 올 것으로 예상될 수 있다(only 50-60 Russians can be expected in Paris, a fraction of their usual team size)고 언급함
5)2월19일(월) 2026년 동계올림픽에 사용될 새로운 썰매경기장이 Cortina d’Ampesso에서 신축 작업이 개시되었다(Monday marked the start of the construction effort on the new sliding track in Cortina d’Ampezzo for the 2026 Winter Games)함. 공사에 반대하는 항의시위자들도 참여 준비를 마쳤지만 부지는 이미 확보된 상태(Protesters were ready, too, but the site had already been secured)라고 함
6)IOC는 필리핀올림픽위원회에 전설적인 스타 복서인 Manny Pacquiao에 대하여 Paris 2024올림픽 복싱경기출전허용에 예외가 될 수 없음을 통보하였다 함(The International Olympic Committee told the Philippine Olympic Committee that no exceptions will be made to allow star boxer Manny Pacquiao to compete at Paris 2024) 그는 올림픽출전 제한 연령인 40세를 넘겼으며 필리핀은 특별 추가 쿼터 배당 자격이 없다고 함(He’s 45, over the age limit of 40 and the Philippines does not qualify for a special added quota spot.)
