[IOC위원장이 환영한 캐나다원주민(First Nation)추장Littlechild Lausanne올림픽박물관 방문현장 스케치]

 

 

원주민 국가지도자 추장(First Nations leader Grand Chief) Willie Littlechild가 7월12일 Thomas Bach IOC위원장과 Lausanne 올림픽박물관을 둘러 보았다고 IOC홈페이지에 뉴스로 올라 왔습니다.

캐나다 의회 전직 의원(a former member of the Canadian Parliament)이기도 한 추장(Chief) Littlechild는 최근 Calgary2026 동계올림픽 및 패럴림픽 유치위원회 새로운 집행이사로 임명되었다(recently appointed to the new Board of the Calgary 2026 candidature committee)고 합니다

 

그는 지난 6월 말 첫 15명의 이사진 일원으로 발표되었다(one of the first 15 Board members to be announced at the end of June)고 합니다

 

추장의 직업은 변호사인데( a lawyer by trade) 청년시절 스포츠가 자신을 어떻게 구제하였는지 매우 웅변적으로 이야기 하였는데 그가 캐나다에서 성장할 때 지금 평판이 몹시 나쁜 기숙학교에서의 정신적 충격을 극복하고 살아남도록 스포츠를 통해 도움을 받았다(spoken very eloquently about how sport saved his life as a young man, helping him to survive the trauma of the now infamous residential schools when he was growing up in Canada)고 합니다.

 

그는 스포츠가 자신을 구원하였다(sport “saved him”)고 이야기 하였으며 스포츠와 교육이 조화됨으로써 성공의 위대한 길이 되었노라고(the combination of sport and education was a great path to success) 털어 놓았다고 합니다.

 

오륜마크에 상징화되었듯이(symbolized in the Olympic rings), 스포츠는 상호연결성을 창출해 주며 우리의 다양성과 단결성을 존중해 준다(sport creates interconnectedness and honours our diversity and our unity)고 원주민 국가지도자(First Nations Leader) Willie Littlechild가 언급하였다고 합니다.

 

Lausanne 방문 시 Littlechild추장은 다음과 같이 이야기 하였다고 합니다:

 

A.  “Sport can heal, unite and advance reconciliation. (스포츠는 치유하고, 연합시키며 화해를 앞당겨 줄 수 있음)

B.  “The Olympic Games promote peace and culture through sport by bringing global citizens together to experience the common love of sport. (올림픽은 글로벌 시민들을 함께하도록 해 줌으로써 스포츠에 대한 공통적 사랑을 경험하게 하며 스포츠를 통해 평화와 문화를 증진시켜 주고 있음)

C.  Symbolised in the Olympic rings, sport creates interconnectedness and honours our diversity and our unity.” (오륜마크에 상징화되었듯이, 스포츠는 상호연결성을 창출해 주며 우리의 다양성과 단결성을 존중해 주고 있음)

 

Bach IOC위원장과 Littlechild추장 두 지도자들은 마침 올림픽박물관에 전시 중인(on dislay) 세계토착원주민게임(World Indigenous Games) 승리자 메달(winners’ medal)을 볼 수 있었다고 합니다.

 

이 메달은 평창2018 동계올림픽 기간 중 littlechild추장이 Bach IOC위원장에게 수여하였다고 합니다.

 

개별 메달 전부가 원주민 예술가들의 수제품이며(each medal is hand made by indigenous artists) 수제품 창조 시마다 특별 영적 의식이 수반되었다(their creation is accompanied by a special spiritual ceremony )고 합니다.

Littlechild 추장은 UN에서 연설하게 될 오는 10월 제네바를 다시 찾을 것이며 그 자리에서 올림픽이 전 세계에 걸쳐 인권을 바로 세우는 데 기여한다는 것을 이야기 할 것(talk about the contribution of the Olympic Games to building human rights around the world)이라고 합니다

 

두 지도자가 올림픽박물관을 둘러 보면서, Thomas Bach IOC위원장은 오륜 색의 의미심장성에 대하여(the significance of the colours of the Olympic rings) 손님인 Littlechild 추장에게 설명하였는데 5가지 색은 세계 모든 국기에 사용되는 모든 색을 나타내며(the five colours represent all the colours used in the world’s flags) 5대륙을 대표한다(represent the five continents)고 하였습니다

 

한편Littlechild추장(Chief)은 오륜 색의 의미를 다음과 같이 설명하였다고 합니다:

A.  “A traditional Indigenous teaching of the five Olympic rings symbolises unity – blue is water, yellow is the sun, black is in the centre and is Mother Earth, green is the grasses and red is fire.” (오륜에 대한 전통적 원주민의 가르침에 따르면, 단합을 상징하는데 청색은 물을, 황색은 태양을, 흑색은 중심이며 모태인 땅을, 녹색은 풀을, 홍색은 불을 각각 상징함)

B.  “All elements are life givers, and have cultural ceremony.”(모든 요소들은 생명을 주는 주체들이며 문화적 의식을 가지고 있음)

C.  “Together, representing spirituality, the honouring and winning in life.” (이 모두가 함께, 영성, 삶에서의 영예, 삶에서의 승리를 나타내 줌)

D.  “The interconnectedness of the rings symbolises our richness of diversity and unity.” (오륜의 상호연결성은 다양성과 단합성의 풍요로움을 상징해 주고 있음)
