6월13일 외신 보도 내용입니다.

 

IOC 동계올림픽 미래유치위원회(FHC: Future Host Commission for Olympic Winter Games)로부터 권고 추천에 따라 IOC집행위원회는 French Alps for the 2030 Winter Games와 Salt Lake City - Utah 2034 (SLC-UT 2034)를 각각 2030년 및 2034년 동계올림픽 개최지로 7월22일~24일 Paris개최 IOC총회에서 선출을 위한 투표에 붙이기로 제안하기로 하였다고 합니다.

SLC-UT 2034동계올림픽유치위원회 위원장 겸 CEO인 Fraser Bullock은 “이것은 Utah커뮤니티와 우리 선수들과 우리나라를 위한 기념비적인 날 임. 우리는 IOC의 지원과 신뢰에 깊이 감사하며 우리의 Paris IOC총회에서의 최종 프레젠테이션과 투표결과를 손꼽아 기다리고 있음”(This is a milestone day for our Utah communities, our athletes and our country. We deeply appreciate the IOC's support and confidence, and we look forward to our final presentation and vote in Paris)이라고 소감을 표명하였다고 합니다.

 

Karl Stoss 동계올림픽 FHC위원장은 4월중순 미국 Utah주를 방문한 바 있으며 FHC위원들은 각각의 경기장을 둘러 보았으며 커뮤니티와 선수들과 함께 이야기를 나누는 기회를 가졌다고 합니다.

 

Utah주 방문결과와 추가적인 연구에 근거하여 FHC는 긍정적인 의견을 제공하였다(Based on this visit and additional research, the Commission provided positive feedback)고 합니다.

 

SLC-UT 2034동계올림픽유치위원회 위원장 겸 CEO인 Fraser Bullock은 “IOC의 새로운 개최지선출과정은 우리로 하여금 훌륭한 대회개최뿐만 아니라 우리 커뮤니티가 스포츠를 통한 장기간의 혜택을 가져올 플랫폼을 활용할 수 있도록 긴밀한 협업할 수 있도록 도움을 줄 대화에 임하도록 허용해 주는데 매우 생산적 이었음”(The new election process with the IOC has been very productive in allowing us to engage in a dialogue that will help us work in close partnership to not only deliver a great Games, but to use the platform to deliver long-term benefits to our communities through sport)라고 덧붙였다고 합니다

 

 

USOPC CEO인 Sarah Hirshland는 “오늘은 Salt Lake City와 Utah주가 미국으로 동계올림픽과 패럴림픽을 다시 가져올 수 있도록 각고의 노력을 경주함으로써 SLC-UT에게는 기막힌 기념비적인 날로 기리게 되었음”(Today marks a wonderful milestone for Salt Lake City and the State of Utah in their efforts to bring the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games back to the US) “SLC-UT유치위원회는 대회와 동계종목 그리고 Utah 커뮤니티를 위한 분명한 비전을 가지고 있음. 그러한 비전에 대하여 IOC가 인정해 준 것을 보니 훌륭하다는 생각이며 우리는 FHC와 IOC집행위원에 감사드리는 바임”(The Salt Lake City-Utah Committee has a clear vision for the Games, for winter sports and for the Utah community. SLC-UT 2034를 고려하면서 IOC는 Salt Lake City 2002대회의 변혁적인 혜택을 새로운 세대에게 펼쳐주는 기회에 대하여 언급하면서 Utah주의 자원과 경험을 동계올림픽과 패럴림픽 운동의 혜택을 도모하는 지렛대 삼을 것이며 독특한 조밀한 대회 개념을 충분히 이용할 것(the opportunity to extend the transformative benefits of the 2002 Utah Winter Games to a new generation, to leverage the state's resources and experience for the benefit of the Olympic and Paralympic Movement, and to take full advantage of a unique compact Games concept)이라고 평가하였다고 합니다.

 

IOC는 SLC-UT 2034유치위원회가 지역의 사회경제적 개발계획, 특히 지속가능성 측면과 지역과 미국의 잠재적 장기 혜택이란 관점이 맞물려 IOC의 Olympic Agenda 2020 및 2020+5와의 맥락이 통할 것임(the alignment of SLC-UT 2034 with the IOC's Olympic Agenda 2020 and 2020+5 with regional socio-economic development plans, particularly in terms of sustainability and creating long-term benefits for the region and potentially the country)을 주목하였다고 합니다.

 

SLC-UT 2034 유치위원회 임원들은 7월24일 예정된 IOC총회에서의 예상되는 투표에 앞서 6월26일 IOC위원들에게 기술적 프레젠테이션을 실시하게 될 것(make a technical presentation to IOC members on 26 June in the lead-up to the expected vote in Paris on 24 July)이라고 합니다

 

IOC총회에서 Spencer Cox Utah주지사와 Erin Mendenhall SLC시장과 USOPC지휘부를 포함한 USOPC 및 SLC-UT 2034 유치대표단은 7월24일 IOC총회에서 IOC위원들 전체를 대상으로 공식 프레젠테이션을 실시할 예정(make a formal presentation to the IOC )입니다
