4월19일자 한 외신 기사제목은 “획기적인 아시안게임 Fun Run달리기대회 5월1일 북한 수도평양에서 개최된다”(Groundbreaking Asian Games Fun Run to be held in North Korean capital on May 1)였습니다
아시아올림픽평의회(OCA: Olympic Council of Asia)는 오는 5월1일 북한 수도인 평양에서 제18회 아시안게임 Fun Run 달리기대회를 개최하면서 새롭게 개척할 것(break new ground when it holds an 18th Asian Games Fun Run in Pyongyang)이라고 합니다.
OCA는2006년 카타르 도하개최 아시안게임을 홍보하기 위한 일환으로 Fun Run달리기라는 이니셔티브(initiative)를 시작한 바 있으며 이후 Guangzhou2010, Incheon2014 및 Jakarta Palembang 2018로 이어지는 아시안게임으로 가는 길목에서(in the build-up to the Asian games) 아시아대륙에 걸쳐 일련의 달리기대회(a series of runs around the continent in the build-up to the Asian Games)를 개최하여 온 것으로 알려졌습니다.
조선민주주의 인민공화국 올림픽위원회(DPRK NOC)가 아시안게임 Fun Run달리기대회 시리즈에 합류한 것은 이번이 처음이며 OCA는 6년이 경과하는 동안 첫 공식방문이 될 것(making its first official visit to Pyongyang for over six years)이라고 합니다.
다음은 Sheikh Ahmand Al-Fahad Al-Sabah OCA회장의 발언 내용입니다:
A. "We are very happy and honoured to be working closely with the National Olympic Committee of DPR Korea and the OCA is very much looking forward to visiting Pyongyang again soon." (우리는 북한 NOC와 긴밀하게 협업하게 되어 기쁘고 영광스러우며 OCA는 곧 다시 평양을 방문하게 되기를 학수고대하고 있음)
B. "The Fun Run is proving to be a very popular and enjoyable way of promoting our Asian Games to a young generation of sports enthusiasts while also encouraging an active and healthy lifestyle. (Fun Run달리기대회는 활동적이고 건강한 생활방식을 권장하는 가운데 아시안게임을 스포츠에 열정적인 청소년세대에게 홍보하는 매우 인기 있고 즐기는 방식이 되고 있음이 증명되고 있음)
C. "We are sure that the Asian Games Fun Run in Pyongyang on May 1 will be a special occasion for the Olympic movement and a big success for all concerned. (우리는 5월1일 예정된 평양에서의 아시안게임 Fun Run달리기대회가 올림픽운동을 위한 특별한 계기가 될 뿐만 아니라 관련되는 모든 사람들에게 커다란 성공이 될 것으로 확신하고 있음)
D. Sheikh Ahmad는 지난 2011년 11월 스포츠 협력 및 지원 협의 회담 차(for talks on sports cooperation and assistance) 평양을 방문한 바 있지만, OCA회장은 아시안게임 Fun Run달리기행사에 참가하는 3명의 OCA대표단에는 포함되지 않을 것(will not be part of the three-strong OCA delegation attending the Asian Games Fun Run)이라고 합니다
북한 NOC에 따르면, 평양개최 아시안게임 Fun Run달리기행사는 5월1일(화) 오전 10시부터 평양 청춘 거리 소재 스포츠시설 밀집지역(Sports Complex)에서 열릴 것이라고 합니다

평양개최 아시안게임 Fun Run달리기대회 거리는 5km이며 학생, 선수 및 일반대중을 포함하여200명이 넘는 참가자들이 예상된다고 합니다.
OCA는 가장 최근인 2017년 12월 Fun Run달리기행사를 시작하였으며 이어 2018년 8월18일~9월2일 자카르타 팔렘방 아시안게임 시작될 때까지 아시아대륙 5개 지역권으로부터 33개를 상회하는 NOC지역들은 순회 할 것으로 알려졌습니다
북한 NOC는 2018년 내내 지구촌 스포츠의 스포트라이트를 받아 오고(has been in the global sports spotlight throughout 2018) 있습니다
주지하시다시피, 지난 1월 평창2018 동계올림픽출전에 합의한 후 동 개회식에 한반도기를 앞세우고(behind the Korean Unification Flag) 남북한 선수단 공동행진을 한 바 있습니다.
남북한 선수들은 또한 여자 아이스하키 남북한 단일팀을 성사시켜 출전한(fielded a joint team) 바도 있습니다.
지난 달 3월 Thomas Bach IOC위원장은 평양을 방문하여 김정은 북한 최고지도자(North Korea's Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un)를 만난 바 있습니다.
김정은 최고지도자와의 Bach IOC위원장과의 면담에서 북한은 오는 10월 Buenos Aires2018하계 청소년올림픽과 Lausanne2020동계 청소년올림픽은 물론 북한은 Tokyo2020하계올림픽 및 Beijing2022 동계올림픽에 북한선수들이 출전을 공약하였음(committed to sending its athletes to the Olympic Games)을 확인한 바 있습니다.
