1.   POCOG주최 IOC EB 대상 공식만찬 이모저모 스케치

벌써 오늘(2월 6일)이 평창2018 개막까지 딱 G-3일 되는 날입니다

이틀 전인 2월4일 저녁은 평창에서 열린 첫 IOC집행위원회 2일차 회의가 마무리되고 평창2018 이희범조직위원장 주최 공식만찬(19:30~21:30)이 강릉 경포대 6성급으로 알려진 씨마크(Sea Marq.)호텔 하늘 홀에서 있었습니다.

참석자는 Thomas Bach IOC위원장 부부를 비롯하여 IOC집행위원 15명과 IOC핵심간부 진 그리고 주최자인 이희범 POCOG위원장부부, 최문순 강원도지사, 심재국 평창군수, 최명희 강릉시장, 유승민 IOC위원 겸 평창 동계올림픽 선수촌장 및 POCOG 부위원장 2명과 최명규홍보차장을 비롯한 몇몇 간부들이 참석하였습니다.

필자는 Ser Miang NG IOC집행위원(싱가포르), Sergey Bubka IOC집행위원(우크라이나) 및 Gian-Franco Kasper 국제스키연맹(FIS)회장과 1번 테이블에서 담소를 나누었습니다.

대한민국 국가대표(?) 국악소녀 송소희의 구성진 아리랑과 태평가 등 전통 한국 민요곡조로 분위기가 무르익어 갔습니다.

만찬 식순에 의거하여 이희범 POCOG조직위원장의 영어만찬사가 있었으며 모두 의미심장하게 경청하였습니다.

IOC President Thomas Bach,

Madame Chair Gunilla Lindberg of the Coordination Commission,

Distinguished IOC EB Members,

Good Evening, and my warm welcome to everyone.

As you are well aware, it has been a long waiting. In 2003 and 2007, PyeongChang shed tears twice, but stood up again with refreshed hope for the third-time charm.

In 2011, the Olympic Winter Games finally arrived at PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Station, named “New Horizons” with blessings from the entire Olympic Movement, thanks to overwhelming support by the IOC Members in Durban IOC Session.

At long last, with the completion of all venues and infrastructure together with the Games operational readiness, PyeongChang is now ready to welcome the world; Athletes, Spectators, Olympic Family Members, Media, and all other Stakeholders.

PyeongChang 2018 Winter Games, both in quantity and quality aspects, would serve as a new record holder, thus showcasing a new milestone in the history of the Olympic Movement in terms of:

Firstly, PyeongChang Games is highlighted with the 6,500 participating athletes and officials from 92 NOCs over 102 disciplines.

Secondly, you can enjoy the PyeongChang Games as a Culture Olympics under the theme of “Everyday, Culture and Festival”

Thirdly, PyeongChang Games is to be spotlighted with its ICT Olympics culminating into a 5G cutting-edge and state-of-the-art technologies, including IoT, VR, AR, Robotics, UHD services. UHD TV will be shown for the first time through the Games.

Fourthly, PyeongChang Games will serve as a Peace Olympics, thus creating a new milestone:

1)   Olympic Truce Resolution was adopted by consensus by the record biggest-ever number of 193 UN member states with 157 nations endorsed at the UN General Assembly in November last year.

2)   The 101-day long Olympic Torch Relay by 7,500 torch bearers across the country for nation0wide promotion in order to “Let Everyone Shine”

3)   ANOC General Assembly last November in Prague unanimously adopted PyeongChang Resolution as a sign of its fullest support.

4)   4-Party Meeting presided over by IOC Presidetn Thomas Bach at IOC Headquarters just last month has brought together the participation of DPR Korean delegation in the PyeongChang Games 

Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate my heartfelt and special appreciation to IOC President Thomas Bach, Madam Chair Gunilla Lindberg, and all IOC EB Members who are here today with us for their painstaking efforts and affectionate contribution thus far.

Without your support, it would not be possible to accomplish our Games Readiness and Operational Status as you can see right now.

As IOC President Thomas Bach used to mention, IOC and POCOG are in the same boat, sailing in the same direction till the end of the Games on 25 February.

My special thanks also go to all the Members of the IOC CoCom and IOC Administration and all the stakeholders for their support in the process of the successful organization of PyeongChang 2018 in the same spirit of collaboration during and till the end of the Games.

The success of PyeongChang 2018 is, of course, the success of all of you here today and the entire Olympic Movement.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Finally, the Opening Ceremonies of the PyeongChang Games are just around the corner.

Therefore, let’s continue to tie our shoes tight for the great and resounding success of the Games in history. 

Together, we can create and bring a miracle which will hopefully serve as a historic milestone for next Olympic Host Cities in general, and Beijing2022 in particular in the Olympic Spirit and the spirit of the Olympic Agenda 2020.

Together we are more powerful than any one of us working alone.   

Together we can shine.

Together we can light up the world.

2.   졸지에 명예감자(Honorary Potato)가 된 Bach IOC위원장과 Lindberg IOC 조정위원장 스케치

이어 Thomas Bach IOC위원장의 답사가 있었는데, 자신과 Gunilla Lindberg IOC조정위원장에게 함께 붙여준 ‘감자홍보대사’(Honorary Potato)라는 별칭으로 분위기를 주도하면서 Bach IOC위원장 특유의 이야기가 화제가 되었습니다.

앞으로도 3주간 평창에 머물러야 하는 입장에서 ‘감자홍보대사”가 정확하게 무슨 의미인지는 모르지만 아무튼 좋은 명칭으로 알고 고맙게 받아들이겠다고 하여 좌중의 웃음을 자아냈습니다.

사실 평창이 동계올림픽 3수 도전을 하면서 스키점프 대를 비롯하여 주요 동계올림픽 시설이 자리잡은 곳이 바로 당초 강원도 ‘감자원종장’ 부지였기 때문에 누군가 강원도 대표 상징 대명사이기도 한 ‘감자’에 명예를 붙여 ‘감자홍보대사’ (Honorary Potato)가 된 것이라고 유추할 수 있었습니다.

또 한가지, 현재 평창2018동계올림픽 개 폐회식장(Olympic Stadium)부지는 당초 대관령의 특산 명물인 황태(Yellow Dried Pollack)덕장이 있었던 곳이라고 합니다.

桑田碧海(상전벽해)런 고사에서 뽕나무 밭이 푸른 바다로 변한 것처럼 居民(거민)이 희소하였던 칼바람의 언덕(Cutting Windy Hill) 강원도 두메산골 대관령(횡계)이 드디어 유치도전 3수동안 지내온 세월 18년 만에 ‘감자-황태 2중주 앙상블연주 합작 동계올림픽 명소’로 탈바꿈한 것을 ‘Transformative Effects of the Olympic Games’(올림픽주도 변형 효과)로 부르고 싶습니다.

3.   Bach IOC위원장 특유의 이희범 POCOG위원장 평가론 三行詩(삼행시)

Thomas Bach IOC위원장은 답사를 통해 이희범 조직위원장에 대해 삼행시로 유머와 팩트(fact)가 담겨 있는 수준 있는 발언은 좌중을 휘어 잡고 남을 정도였으며 역시 Bach IOC위원장다운 내공이 여실히 엿보이는 대목이었습니다.

1)   “President Lee is a polite man, because he did not mention the rival candidate city PyeongChang won at 2011 Durban IOC Session voting.” (이희범 조직위원장은 예의범절이 훌륭한 공손한 사람입니다. 왜냐하면 2011년 평창이 남아공 더반개최 IOC총회에서 승리할 때 이겼던 경쟁후보도시<Bach IOC위원장 선출(2013년)되기 전 자신이 유치위원장 이었던 뮌헨/Munich>를 언급하지 않았기 때문입니다)

2)   “President Lee is a dynamic man, because as POCOG President he spurred the overall preparations process with dynamism in place.” (이 희범조직위원장은 활력 충만한 사람입니다. 왜냐하면 그가 조직위원장 직을 맡으면서 그분 특유의 활력을 불어 넣어 동계올림픽준비과정에 박차를 가하였기 때문입니다)

3)   “President Lee is a reliable man, because he kept his promise to be the last President of the Organizing Committee(POCOG) at the dinner with the IOC Executive Board members in Lausanne in 2016.” (이희범 조직위원장은 믿을 만한 신뢰가 있는 사람입니다. 왜냐하면 2016년 신임선출 조직위원장으로 스위스 로잔에서 IOC집행위원들과의 만찬에서 자신이 바뀌지 않는 마지막 조직위원장이 되겠다고 다짐한 약속을 지켜냈기 때문입니다)

4.   평창2018조직위원회 위원장 Wannabe 三行詩(삼행시) VIP論(론)  

올림픽대회에서 주인공이자 VIP는 당연히 참가선수들입니다.

선수들에 대하여 출 도착(AND), 물자(LOG), 수송(TRA), 선수촌숙박(OLV+ACM), 의료 및 보건(MED), 식음료(F&B), 소통/통신(COM) 등등을 신경 쓰고 지원해 주는 곳이 올림픽대회 조직위원회입니다.

조직위원회 최고사령탑의 거두는 조직위원장입니다.

Bach IOC위원장이 언급한 대로 이희범 POCOG위원장은 polite하고, dynamic하며 reliable한 분이라고 믿습니다.

그래서 대회 VIP인 선수들에 향해 총괄서비스 책임자인 조직위원장의 바람직한 행동강령(Code of Conduct)을 이희범(Lee, Hee-Beom)조직위원장의 姓인 Lee를 삽입하여 VIP 三行詩(삼행시)를 지어 보았습니다:

5.   Bach IOC위원장 이름에 붙여본 四行詩(사행시)

2013년 IOC위원장으로 선출되어 5년 차를 맞이하고 있는 Thomas Bach IOC위원장 역시 Dynamic함은 물론 명석하고(Brilliant), 수완이 어마무시하고(Awesome), 카리스마 넘치는(Charismatic) 올림픽운동 지도자 중 영웅(Hero)임에 틀림 없다고 생각합니다.

그래서 Bach IOC위원장의 경우 四行詩(사행시)가 되는데 다음과 같이 정리해 보았습니다.

H: Hero

코 앞으로 다가온 평창2018의 성공개최를 위해 칼 바람 맞으며 불철주야 희생봉사하고 있는 자원봉사자를 포함한 모든 POCOG인력(Workforce)에게 깊은 감사와 격려 그리고 뜨거운 응원을 함께 보냅니다.
